I seem to have a Guzzi again

    After much umm-ing and aah-ing, as I really couldn't remember where I
was in the service sequence[1] I decided to drop the sump and did the
dirty deed. Wasn't as bad as I remembered.

Once done, I dug out an old voltage regulator and swapped it for the
current one: looks like it's a good 'un because the charging voltage
    looks fine now.

I've also decided to reduce the headlight wattage slightly by
compromising and fitting one 35W bulb: originally the bike had twin
35-35W bulbs but when I upgraded the headlights I fitted 60/55W
jobbies. Unfortunately, I'm coming to the conclusion that they're a
bit much for the charging system.

There was an odd problem, though: the 35W bulb looks identical
*except* the top tab of the mounting, which is a couple of mm wider
than the 60W one, so it wouldn't just drop straight in. It only took a
couple of minutes with a file to sort, but why? I mean WHY FFS? To
prevent people fitting a 35W bulb by mistake? Gah. Surely the reverse
woud be worse if the electrics weren't up to it?

Anyway, It Is Done. It's been a satisfying day.

[1] I've run off the end and started again. Unfortunately it's not as
simple as just starting from the beginning because some things are
done every service, some every other service, some every third. I
stick to the service chart because I have an appalling memory, not
    helped by owning several vehicles.

    ...
How about Chinese HIDs? they're 35W when running, feck sight brighter than a
    35W (or 55W) halogen, too

It did fleetingly cross my mind, but having replaced the original
lights with a pair of Cibies, and made up the necessary bracketry, I
CBA to go through that again. In fact, one 60/55 and one 35/35 seemed
fine this evening even on wet roads, so I'll stick with the current
    set-up, I think.
