  1. .... plagued by fucked head races.

The TS needs a new lower race. It also needs the fork stanchions
aralditing and attacking with emery cloth.

And the new fork seals that I got from Ebay don't fit. Bugger. The old
ones were *cunts* to get out, requiring the molishing of a Suzuki
    Special Tool #56-45645756-56756-75-67-56-7-567-34-532-5-356-454567-567B.
They then needed a real monstering with a crow bar to remove.

Apart from that, it's all going swimmingly! ;^)

Oh, it's not *that* bad. And I knew that the front end was in need of
attention when I purchased the little darling from its previous owner. I
are still a very, very happy camper.

"I'll take the TS rather than the KH, cos I'm not looking for a

How you could tell the head races were fucked with those forks, I'll
never know. I didn't know, that's for certain.

Heh. There was no way to tell until the forks were dropped. Then I could
*just* feel a notch. Dropping the races out has shown slight corrosion
on the lower race, the upper one looks fine.

It's lovely to work on, really. No bodywork, no fucking about. And it's
    so *light*...

The indicators work properly now too. Now there's correctly rated blubs
    on all four corners.

    heh, talking of molishing stuff.

Dropped the filter housing off the Superdream today in the hope of
firing the engine up for the first time in many a year tomorrow, and
out pops the spring & filter. Hmm, I think, not sure that spring should
be bearing directly on the rubber seal on the filter.

Cue grabbing the spare engine in the hope of finding a washer in there.

Er, no, lots of water, and someone has filed down the filter bolt from
a hex to a square. And no washer.

Casting about me, I espied an angle grinder disc. Well worn beyond it's
days. Quick molish with the tinsnips later, 1 oil filter washer.

I love this bike fettling thing ;)

    Cheers

    Paul.

    There is an alternative.

    Buy new bike.

Ride for 6 (possibly 8) years.

    Sell to dull bugger.

I did learn this after many years of scabbed knuckles.

Fun is spending three hours removing an oil filter with a cold chisel.
Pattern parts that are just a bit smaller so the filter wrench slips.
    Never again!

Not my doing - they've not been opened since I bought it.

PS there wasn't another key - numbered "185" - on that key ring, was
there? I think a certain Ebayer might be grateful if there was.

PPS: you know you 'phoned to be "talked down" on Thursday. It took
four hours to find the 'phone after you left. It was in the box of KH
bits. Ringing my home number from my mobile didn't help, cos the base
    unit rings, not the handset.

That's a short term solution surely? Why not get them re plated? Or is
it going to be a winter hack or something?
I had 2 sets of fork seals from ebay that didn't fit. :( there sometimes
seem to be a number of seals that will fit one model on bike, that
    doesn't help either.
Heh... at least it's a 2 stroke, so you can do a top end + mains
overhaul for about £65 quid.. plus lower steering head bearings
    £20..plus... plus...[1]

    [1] and so on.

It's going to be a toy. I'll keep an eye out for a decent set of forks.
I might even check with Spares Direct for the price of a new set.
That (I think) is the problem here. It looks like the '79 got beefed up
    forks.

Fair enough, seems like the best solution. I bunged a new set on my
CG125[1], as the old ones seemed to have the chrome plate falling off
the area which the seals slid over. Not good, but understandable for a
    bike made in Brazil.
Yeh, with around 5 sets of fork seals to choose for the same model of
bike, it's no wonder things get a bit squiffy. heh..

[1]Filled the tubes with DII ATF, which has improved damping loads.

Let me know the i/d, o/d and depth of the old ones, then I can cross
reference in my books for a set that will fit.
