Torque is less likely to get you into trouble than horsepower.

  3. (Snip Zephyr 1100 indecision stuff)

My first excursion into big bikedom was a Zephyr 1100, prior to which I had
a Honda CX500. A couple of slightly cautious trips to get used to it and
all I could think was 'Why didn't I do this sooner?'. Although it seemed
hugely grunty, it was very well mannered and easy to ride. The only problem
I had with it was a lot of surface corrosion on the engine casings and
silencers but a major contributory factor was likely to be my lack of care.
On reflection, having since had a Speed Triple, 1200 & 955i Daytonas, an R1,
a Gixxer Thou, a Tuono, a GSX 1400 plus a couple of others, it was an ideal
entry level big bike if there is such a thing.

Guilty as charged, m'lud. I'd like to take a garage full of
    ShiteOldBikes into consideration.

I don't like the 'only idles on three cylinders' bit. Not at all. If
the dealer can't be arsed to fix it before he advertises...

Too late, they've pulled the auction as they appear to have sold it.
Dunno if I am pleased or not.

  8. Precisely. Or worse, he tried and tried and couldn't.

Move on - keep looking and you'll find one without the dodgy symptoms.
Some other poor sucker's taking the risk now, so be pleased.
