  1. Dropped below the line in fact.

This means I need new pads right?

Maybe, I'd look at the pads to check. It may also mean that you have a
    leak somewhere.

  3. If you've ridden through Swansea in the last few days I'd say some
    Jack stole it.

You know what'll happen don't you? I'll go out there and start poking
round and find all sorts of things that need doing and before I am even
aware of it what was once a nice reliable get-on-it-and-ride-it machine
will turn into a ferocious money eating, knuckle skinning, device from
hell whose only purpose is to keep me hanging around in parts
departments looking wistfully at packets of anodised bolts.

This could be the end of a beautiful relationship.

Not from the brakes no, the engine certainly but not the brakes.

"poking around" always results in trouble; you could be removed from the
marrital home, have the CSA on your case and so on. It's really not worth
    the hassle.

  11. possibly , check for leaks on the hoses , seals and around the connection
    points between hoses and calliper
also make sure your bleed nipples are not lose or weeping

If they need doing, they're not going to get any better by themselves.
Come mot time, you'll be glad you spotted it. Anyway, if you use a bike,
it'll need stuff doing, if you don't use a bike, it'll still need stuff
    doing.
If you look at the right bits at the right times, things will be fine.
    :)
Unlikely I know, it was just an idea.

You don't seem to have got many serious answers, Steve, so I'll try
    and help.

The short answer is no. It may be indiactive of pad wear, but there's
only one way to find out and that's to look at the buggers.

Dunno I have never tasted one. I used to quite like the Islay stuff

I didn't get the answer I wanted, this is certain. I have heard this
bit about drop in reservoir levels before and was using it as a fishing
trip but it's proponents don't seem to want to play or have me KFed or
    summat.

OK but over the years I had inspected many sets of pads, in situ like
you are told to, and don't actually recall an instance where I have ever
seen the actual pads through the accumulated road crud let alone
something important like a tiny little scratch that is supposed to be a
wear indicator. I wouldn't mind a clue on how to do it without using my
old tried and tested technique of assuming they need doing and finding
out just how bad they are when disassembled and ready for the new ones
the price of which I am preparing for now by taking large quantities of
    blood pressure reducing drugs.

  20. take a trip to the garage and give them a blast of compressed air that helps
to move the crud around the pad , give them a light tap with the edge of a
    screwdriver
(avoiding any seals gators covers etc) spray break cleaner upon them if you
have some make sure all crud is removed from the pad faces before you move
    off
Big don't do use wd 40 might sound real obvious but i know some one that did
    it
