I love footpath parking!

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Craig Gilligan, Jan 9, 2004.

  1. hi all

I'm recently arrived from Sunny Sydney :) and just got my motorcycle
licence and have a very quick question:

Under what circumstances am I allowed to park on the footpath down here?

Believe it or not footpath parking was one of the reasons I moved down here
    :)

ps. Anybody want to hire a Linux/Unix geek ? Hmm, I didnt think so. ..

You can park on just about any footpath in greater Melbourne as long as
you don't block pedestrian (and particularly wheelchair) access.
Are you also a PHP guru? If so, then send me an email.

"In Victoria you can legally park your motorcycle on the footpath, as long
as you do not obstruct predestrians, delivery vehicles, pulica transport
users or parked cars, and avoid parking on private properties."

  5. What would you (or anyone else) recommend for as some kind of ICQ program to
run in gnome? Tried Gicq. it sucks.

BitchX. A powerful little text-based IRC client that comes with the occasional
remote access root shell. Has an X front-end as well if the shell scares
    you.

  15. There's still no way known I'll be changing my main machine over. I'd just
like to know how this linux thing works and I wanna get into the tvl
wireless so I'll need a linux router/firewall for that.

  16. That's a no.

So far I've installed RH8 (twice mind you) into a gnome desktop. Installed a
coupla RPM's and made the thing connect to the net (with the gui) which
wasn't hard. I'd like to get VNC working on it but I'm not having much
luck... I have the VNC src on the RH cd's so I'm assuming I need this ./make
    thingo?

    Told ya I was a linux n00b. :)

    Try these links

Samba, for creating a "Windows" network
    http://au1.samba.org/samba/docs/using_samba/toc.html

    and

IP Masquerading to allow you to share the internet connection
    http://en.tldp.org/HOWTO/IP-Masquerade-HOWTO/

I set this up with a DSL modem in a box that I added linux too and
then connect to a Wireless Router. I use it with windows boxes and it
works fine, but it took too long to find all the right info to get it
working. If I used windows server it would have been done in under an
    hour.

Linux has a long way to go...I used RH9...too many distributions out
there, its a really sad story - geek zone for a while to come yet.

Do you know if/where I can download that whole doc in one piece so I can
read it offline? I've been looking around for a while, and this type
of thing is all I've found - dozens of individual pages. A bit hard, esp
    on dialup...

  19. Thanks dude. Might end up using it as a file server at some stage too. Aside
    from a FTP server.

I got Licq to work. 176706685 if any wnts to talk to a linux n00b. :)

There is about 12 chapters/pages so it would not take to long to
download each page and save it, or you could buy the book.
