I Hired a Twingo [0]...

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Desmond Coughlan, Sep 12, 2003.

  1. .... in 1998, when the One and I did the trip from Montpellier, along the
South coast, as far as Antibes.

The instruments light up at night, when the headlights are on [1].

So how, ô how the _fuck_ did the twat in the Renault Twingo manage to
almost wipe me along the carriageway on rue St-Paul last night, as he was
driving without lights, and I saw him _just_ in time to slam the anchors
    on [2] ?

    [0] on-topic post, for a change ...
[1] yes, I know that the speedo is 'lit' during the day, too
[2] for the benefit of ... erm ... certain people on this newsgroup,
    a) I wasn't the only one who almost saw him, b) he was coming out of a
side-street on my left, thus I had right of way

    *cough*

I meant to write, 'I wasn't the only one who almost _didn't_ see him'.

  4. Well no, YTC ... otherwise he'd have accelerated, wouldn't he ...?

  5. Radical suggestion:

    He turned the headlights off?

Did you not see the "how far can you drive without headlights at
    night" thread a while back?

  6. Well yeah, or forgot to switch them on when he set off. Which was the
    point of my post [1].
    Nope.

    [1] peut-être que j'aurais dû l'écrire en français ..........

Well that's the clever bit isn't it? Making it *seem* like an
    accident....

  9. And that is how, YTC. My Citroen was the same. Only during the day you
didn't notice that the clocks were illuminated. At night, because they
were illuminated, I more than once assumed the lights were on when they
    weren't.

Now surely you could figure this out yourself?

I don't think he has one, he's just looking for more attention/slagging off
so he can feel 'wounded' and like he's got a point.

As were the ones I've had... well, some of the time - the bulbs tend to go
frequently thanks to them being on whenever the car is running, and they're
a PITA to change, especially on the phase 2 AXs'(1), so more often than not
the clocks were left in varying states of darkness until I could be arsed /
could no longer tell how fast I was going, in the dark.

Common sense dictated I just changed the whole lot each time, rather than
just the ones that had expired.

    (1) Many's the time that my wrists looked like I'd had a go at them with a
particularly blunt butter knife, thanks to the tight crevices lined with
sharp plastic edges, that one had to furtle about in, in order to remove /
    refit said clocks.

Did you notice if it had any stickers in the back window to suggest it was a
hire car owned by a US airline?
