I have seen my first 20mph zone.

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by steve auvache, Oct 1, 2004.

  1. Kents Hill Road, Benfleet. About 300 yards long past two schools on a
    double bend. Long overdue really.

I collected three cages in my mirror during the transit.

Plenty of them around the more suburban areas of Liverpool. Quite sensibly
    placed too, IMHO.

Thanks for the offer but no. I really posted that to get feel for how
quickly they are being adopted and how widespread they are.

They have been around the New Forest area here for years now to protect
the animals. Not noticed any around schools yet.

Had them in Accrington for over 10 years now. They were originally placed
to help the non english speaking community as they had **** all road sense
and had a habit of walking out in front of cars. A lad I knew knocked one
over on his 125. The dear old asian gent refused to go to hospital and
died of brain damage the following day. Fair messed with the lads head to
    think he'd killed someone.

our estate is a 20 mph zone (in dalkieth)... not that it makes any

They (in kms/hr) are very common in Denmark, and work really well unless
you are on a 'bike that cannot physically run at 20 MPH in first without a
lot of clutch slipping and anguish, come to think of it, I cannot really
get into second at 30MPH anyway.

    Now then...................................

I have been told, by a copper, that the 20mph speed limits are not
backed by statute. Therefore you cannot be prosecuted for travelling
over 20 (but under the previous limit - normally 30).

I'm prepared to be shot down over this one, however.

Personally, I think they're an excellent idea past schools, during
school hours and at term time.

My street's got those but to be honest you'd be hard pushed to do much
    more anyway.
The worst '20' I've seen so far is in a village on the A94 between Perth
and Forfar. Some young bint ran out from behind a school bus and got
knocked down so the limit which had already been reduced from 40 to 30 is
    now 20.

    Stritchy <> struggled to ejaculate:

    [20mph limits]
TBH, the perceived hazard there is so high that I find myself doing 20
or less in any case (Sorby would love that).

However, it's a bitch maintaining a wheelie past the girls' school and
    staying under 20.

  19. Grrr. Don't you hate the cyclists that ride "properly". Most of them
ignore traffic lights but it's the ones with bicycle clips and helmets
    that get in my way.

Not all of them do, actually, just mostly the ones with day-glo clips.

I imagine that if you chose to proceed at a speed between 20 and 30, and
they really wanted to nail you, they could take the line that you had
ignored the advice (Skool - 20) and do you for Due Care.
