I have not done this before

  1. Changed a disk.

    My Bloo GS is due for it's mot in a few weeks and I can take it off the
    road now for a couple of days and not notice so I thought I would take
    this opportunity to changed the so fucked you can feel it easily with
    your hands rear disk.

    I assume that the carrier stud thingies are throwaway items, anything
    else that needs to be renewed at this time?

    I'd reuse the disc retaining bolts, after a cleanup and with a couple
    of drops of threadlock on each of them.

    The bolts will be of the hex socket head type, right? They will be
    tight and more than likely threadlocked in place, so you will need
    something more substantial than the allen key in the toolkit to remove
    them. Something like a /well-fitting/ hex driver with a matching
    breaker bar a couple of feet in length to break the initial inertia of
    the bolts.

    While you're in there check the wheel bearings and the cush drive
    rubbers for condition, but that's about it.

    [1] Actually I don't, there simply is no need. Other bikes have
    required me to trail the back brake round corners or to brush it lightly
    to bring it to a stop from a roll but for some reason it just seems
    unnecessary on the GS. Odd innit?

    I'd be tempted to use an impact driver to break the loctite. I'd even
    be loath to use the rattle gun on that, as there's not a lot of meat to
    get a purchase on in an allen bolt hole.

    I've zip gunned torx bolts, as i've never managed to round off one of
    these, yet ...

    I might need to do similar on the FJ, as the discs are a bit worn
    (though nowhere near the limit), so i've been taking a close look
    recently.

    Also, where do I get discs at a good price. EBC at M&P are effing
    pricey.

    The wheel was off in the shop three months ago and only the disk was
    mentioned but I will check everything I can reach while I am inside as a
    matter of routine.


    Tempted but it is going to be up on the centre stand and taken apart for
    a week to sort out the many "little" jobs. Like the oil weeping from
    the front offside middle somewhere and the cracks in the fairing and the
    wonky headlight wiring and the cables rubbing and shit. Much scope for
    using gaffa tapes and cable ties. I was rather thinking of Bloo to
    match the rest of it although the idea of pink gaffa tape to match the
    fasteners has an appeal with is going to be very hard to resist.

    I've taken discs of quite a few wheels and I've never needed more that
    a standard sized ratchet. Good quality one, with a well fitting hex
    bit, granted, but no need to **** about with breaker bars.
