I got lane-split yesterday

    Yesterday I went over the border on a brief shopping trip. Returning to
    San Ysidro, I handed the ICE-man my US passport. His first words to me:
    Buenos Tardes. I think he must have realized from the expression on
    my face that I was taking a moment to translate what he'd said, at which
    point he switched to English.

    I don't feel he was being discourteous, but I do understand the intense
    feelings of those who want to bolster the use of English as the official
    language of the USA.
