Hardly surprising, there's no lights on the bike, and the tester has to issue a VT32 for every light that's missing. It passed though, so my record is still at 100% -- Lozzo Suzuki SV650S K5 Honda CBR600 FW trackbike (Now with daytime MOT) Yamaha SR250 Spazz-Trakka Suzuki GSXR750 L Suzuki TS50X Suzuki TS50X
Do you have to have -any- lights at all? Brake light? Anything else you need to do before you turn up for a daytime test?
No position or head lights - they can be either removed, painted or masked over to make them invisible, so duct tape will do and remove the bulbs or disconnect to be sure. I went as far as removing my headlight and tail light altogether and even removed the left switchgear. I sold them all on ebay. No brake light - The police may have different ideas, but the MOT testers manual is quite specific about this. No reflector - this comes under lights Horn must work, squeeky bulb type only on vehicles regd prior to 1973. I have a Bike-It negative switched horn button that cost £3-99 on the left bar. it took 10 minutes to wire into the original horn Mirrors are not needed. According to my tame MOT tester and contrary to common belief, if you have a rear seat you do not need rear footrests. Everything else is as per a normal MOT. -- Lozzo Suzuki SV650S K5 Honda CBR600 FW trackbike Yamaha SR250 Spazz-Trakka Suzuki GSXR750 L Suzuki TS50X Suzuki TS50X
The MoT test and C&U regs may differ on that. -- Dave GS850x2 XS650 SE6a "It's a moron working with power tools. How much more suspenseful can you get?" - House
There's a disparity regarding the requirement for a brake light too. -- Lozzo Suzuki SV650S K5 Honda CBR600 FW trackbike Yamaha SR250 Spazz-Trakka Suzuki GSXR750 L Suzuki TS50X Suzuki TS50X
I doubt it. The RTA does specify that a brake light must conform to various standards "where fitted", so it's clearly not illegal to to ride without one fitted. -- _______ ..'_/_|_\_'. Ace (b.rogers at ifrance.com) \`\ | /`/ `\\ | //' BOTAFOT#3, SbS#2, UKRMMA#13, DFV#8, SKA#2, IBB#10 `\|/` `
[snip lights stuff for daytime MOT] I must say, only the lack of a requirement for a brake light surprised me. Not at all surprising. The only thing MOT-wise that I thought related to pillion provision was that if you /do/ have rear footrests then you must also have a chain-guard. My mind could be messing me around again, of course.
I thought there was something about if you've got a pillion seat & rear footrests, you should grow a backbone & tell the bitch to stay at home & do the ironing. Likewise. -- Krusty www.MuddyStuff.co.uk Off-Road Classifieds '02 MV Senna '03 Tiger 955i '96 Tiger '79 Fantic Hiro 250
now, that reminds me of the hilarious/totally-bastardous incident at L'Abbaye a few years back that Simes pulled on Trevor Dennis.

Trev brought his missus along to a ukrm/Ixion drinks evening at L'Abbaye in Farrington. Simes produced a printout of a post that Trev had made earlier in the day, where he explained that his choice of bike was made specifically so he *didn't* have to take his wife on the back of it. Simes passed the printout to Trev, explaining it was something funny he'd read on the newsgroup. Of course, Trev didn't have his glasses with him, so passed the printout to his wife to read out for him. They left the pub soon afterwards.
It is, you always need a chainguard, it's not just there for a pillion's protection. -- Lozzo Suzuki SV650S K5 Honda CBR600 FW trackbike Yamaha SR250 Spazz-Trakka Suzuki GSXR750 L Suzuki TS50X Suzuki TS50X

so my CCM R30, which came from the factory with no chainguard, would never have passed an MOT? Later ones did have a plastic guard, so maybe the omission from the 2001 R30s was an oversite on CCM's part.
There's one on the 2002 version. Since they will need to be type approved by DoT, if they are allowed to be sold like that, then they will be able to pass the MOT. I suppose it's similar to Yank import cars in the UK, flashing red indicators will be ok, as they left the factory like that. P.
I just checked the manual. Technically, every bike needs a chain/beltguard of some description to comply with C+U regs, but it's not an MOT test requirement - if it's fitted it has to be secure and clear of any moving component. Sadly not - at least not if they were made after 1980ish. Which is why my 'vette has got amber bulbs fitted in the reversing lights. -- Krusty www.MuddyStuff.co.uk Off-Road Classifieds '02 MV Senna '03 Tiger 955i '96 Tiger '79 Fantic Hiro 250
