I'm told today that I cannot have TPF&T on the ZX-9R because it's now a
group 17 bike, as opposed to a group 16 like it was before, so I have to
have comprehensive. WTF is that about... surely the risk is mine to take.
If I want to bear the cost of repair myself, isn't that down to me? Or is
there some extra 3rd party liability in a comprehensive policy that I was
    previously unaware of?

  2. Try a different insurer. I got the same bollocks when I tried to insure
    the van.

My ZX-9R is insured TPF+T through Carole Nash. Costs me 161 quid with
the 3 MS90 points that they really don't like on my licence. I found
them cheaper than anyone Bennets would quote me for. I had to change
company because the previous insurers, on my Thunderace, wouldn't take
    on the ZX.

    That's wierd - I'm with Carole Nash! And I've got a clean licence. Who's
    it underwritten by?

Maybe lots of people have crashed them, 'lost' them and then reported them
    stolen?

    Does seem odd.

Yep. Youngish rider spends his last buck on expensive posing
machine then takes it over the high side first time it rains.
Because fully-comp was priced so prohibitivly he took TPFT, but
now faces a two-grand repair bill. So he phones a mate for a lift
home and reports the bike stolen. The filth can't be arsed to
even go look at the bike. They just phone their designated
recovery firm then issue a case number.

Then there's the other scenario where he's ridden hard n' mean
all the way to engine self-destruct. Dump it in a ditch, light
    the fuel, make the call.
