Yep. No sooner than receiving one for my cage, I've just got one for a cage
I hired in New Zealand. 117kph in a 100kph for those who are interested. The
notice demands a 120NZD (about 40 quid) fine.

Now the whole thing looks like it's going to be more hassle paying it than
ignoring it as I have to send them a NZD cheque[1] or pay in person at the
    office in Wellington!!!

It's for an offence committed in January and I genuinely can't remember who
was driving it could have been one of three people. Unhelpfully they have
    not attached a photograph.

Now I would of thought they'd have just charged my credit card through the
hire company and the first I would know is when I received my statement. But
apparently this is not how they do things.

Considering I would like to return to New Zealand at some point and not be
arrested at the airport. I see three possible courses of action:
Ignore it and hope they don't keep records.
    Pay It (by post!)
Muck em about by asking to see the photo etc. etc. until they finally give
    up.

    What does UKRM advise?

    1. How the **** to you get a NZD cheque?

As I discovered with my french hospital bill, a foreign money order is
the easiest and simplest way to do this, it is to all intents and
purposes 'a cheque' drawn against a foreign partner or division of your
    own bank.

I think a basic one costs about £10, your local bank will be able to
arrange one in about 4 days, then post it to you.

Looked to snip some stuff, but couldn't find owt completely irrelevant to my
    short answer....

I'm not fully sure about NZ, but I got done in Aus 2 years ago and was
advised that if I ever wanted to revisit I should pay up as it could be
awkward getting a visa next time and, even if I paid after that, could still
    be awkward....

At least there's no points or anything.

Try contacting the issuing dept by phone and trying to pay by credit/debit
card just in case..... There might be an easier way to pay than they state.

If you can't do that then I'm pretty sure anywhere that does foreign
exchange could get a foreign cheque - travellers' cheques if nowt else - to
the required value to post off....

As for who was driving, given that there's no points and you were all
transported to your destination (relatively) ultra quick, it seems only fair
to split the whole cost 3 ways and arrange that you don't do any driving
next time just to be sure... :)

Noooooo that's not very sporting is it?
The post to and from NZ is notoriosly slow and unreliable, this could
    take years.
If you are proven guilty - offer to pay cash next time you're over in
    2010.

Barclays will sell you a NZD Bankers draft, it takes about 3 days.
Unfortunately it costs about £15. I expect most other banks will do
    similar.

This is a useful suggestion if I wish to pay it quickly. Although I am
thinking along the lines of Ozmick's suggestion and making them work for
their money. At the very least I will want a souvenir photograph.

Well, why not get a souvenir photograph of you presenting a cheque to the
High Commissioner, or one of his flunkies? *Eventually*, of course. Quite
right not to hurry it. You can spin it all out for a long time, if you can
    be arsed!
