They weren't successful at all.

 

The Continental Hotel in Engineer Lane has very nice rooms and
is the cheapest of the hotels. It does not have smiling bar
staff, because it does not have a bar - but thats hardly a
handicap in a town with plenty. The Cannon Hotel does have
a bar and is also cheap and recently modernised.

The other hotels are very expensive, but thats what people seem
to want.

Things may be more expensive than Spain because water, electricity
etc cost more because of the scale of production; on the whole its
cheaper than the UK.

Thats your choice, plenty of others make a better one.
