On the way to work this morning the Triple broke down with *exactly*
the same fault as last time. ECU light comes on, fan does not,
    temperature rises.

After it cooled, checked the fan. Feels like another duff bearing.
    Arse, arse and *double* arse.

This may be the last time I buy a water cooled bike

You may well have a point there as well :(. Still, only another 2.5
    years on the finance.....

Thing is my mate's has had not a problem since he bought it over 3
yeras ago (apart from one seized bol on the rear wheel adjuster)

  4. I had no problems in the 42K I put on the last one or the 1500 [1] on
    the new one.

[1] YAY! finally run in. I opened it up fully coming out of
Chesterfield on Sunday in 2nd and found that red line was more or less
    a ton <gulp>

Err, I may be missing something here, but wouldn't it be exactly the
    same as the old one?

sure. My point was just that water-cooled bikes aren't in general
known to be less reliable than non-water-cooled ones.
    glad you're enjoying it.

Just me experience of water cooled is that they don't :) The Honda
MTX overheated all the time, this is the second time the Triple ahs
left me stranded (in 2500 miles) The Monster OTOH was AOK for 12k :(

Added complexity of cooling systems I think is the problem :)

Yeah, I know it's more powerful, but the gearing's the same, innit?
    Ahh, that'd explain it.
