TBF the 911 is a raging bargain when you consider what it compares to
(and takes to the cleaners) and how reliable and cheap to run they are.

So far in 49000 miles mine has consumed about £200 in mechanical repairs
(services excepted) and that was two plug top coils which suffered salt
corrosion after being parked up by the seaside in NI.

It goes amazing distances between major services and the last cost me
    about £500 plus bits. www.strasse.co.uk/service.asp

It is due the second set of brake discs in its life.

Perhaps the real pain comes from the servicing rather than the initial
    purchase?

It does when you need a clutch & propshaft, that's for sure. Cost me
about 2k for the 951 iirc, & that was mate's rates.

He's a family man now and 911 rears are only good for kids up to the age
    of 10 or so.
    and

The only 911 you should buy is a Carrera S.
One that has been maintained regardless of expense and still looks like
the day it left Porsche Belfast

  20. I saw a yellow 996 Turbo yesterday for 30k USD. Damn right I want a
    yellow car.

Shame I just spent 20k USD on the fucking landscaping.
