I do believe I managed it.

OK, fine. So how do you draw the line? Number of cars built? Average
price? Porsche built just under 100,000 cars in 2008.

    Then there's the logistics.

Nearly half of those Porsches were Cayennes, built on the same line in
Slovakia as the Q7 & Toerag, all going through one paintshop that can do
up to 1,200 cars a day. That one factory puts out 250,000 cars a year.
Then there's the Boxster & Cayman, built in Finland.

Or is it just the 911 that should get a pass, because it's - well,
because it's the 911. So there.

Let me help you get the hang of this:

"Cars I might choose to buy"

"Cars that come out of Stuttgart"

    and also

Small scale manufacturers, 100k in a year, globally, seems pretty small
    to me?

but.... now they have fucked up and been taken over by VW WGAF

  5. Well, at least he has a Volkswagen Porsche rather than a Volkswagen
    Volkswagen.

No, I have a Porsche Porsche made well before this disaster overcame the
company. I expect pre 2009 911's may command something of a future premium,
especially once VW further damage the brand by doing Cayenne type tricks to
    other models.

I have doubts the same quality of R&D will survive.

If VW had any sense, and sure they won the equity trading war, Porsche would
be sold now and the profits banked. Either back to the original owners or a
new group, but they have to be German. Still a marked effect as the new debt
would affect everything, from quality down.

Shame but I don't GAF any more. Europe has drifted so far to the
totalitarian left one can't use a Carrera properly, the factor that stopped
me having a GT3. Time was I could take it up to the Ulster GP circuit of a
quiet morning and do 3 laps on a public road nailed to the axminster (1).
Trips to Galway and Dublin could be run as death race 200X. West of Scotland
could be run like the 'Ring.

    (1) When the sales manager of Porsche Belfast challenged this I took him
along one fine morning. He soon STFU and begged to be dropped of at him
    mum's gaff.

  7. So you're saying Europe's moved to the left, placing it pretty close to
    most American states?

  8. Where I'm coming from is your statement that Europe has drifted so far
to the left you can't drive like a **** any more.

I just found it amusing to point out that in the US there was even more
    stringent speed legislation.

How does Europe going left result in your being unable to drive a GT3?
Is it because Europe goes left and your car only goes right?

I'm just picturing you arguing with your sat-nav at the moment...

    "At the lights turn left"

    "NO!!!"

    "In 200m make a u turn"

    "At the lights turn right"

    "That's better"...

I don't know WTF you are coming from on that one. Or indeed why.

They Yanks would of course have been somewhat right of centre but
oppressive govmint, left or right, amounts to much the same for the
    average Joe.

Limited production cars still pollute though and there's no cut-off point
below which you aren't subject to VOC limits. Even our little shop of
horrors has a limit and it dropped from 10 tonnes to 2 last year. This was
before the supposed introduction of an "all manufacturers/bodyshops shall
use water based paints" restriction fell through. Or was delayed, because
    they'll eventually enforce it.

Then only the cost of heating the booths and the extra energy that requires
along with the increase in carbon dioxide emissions from whatever makes the
    heat, will be a concern.

Weekend before last I drove my Mum's new Golf GTI back to back with my
    uncle's Caymen S.

Actually had more fun the in the Golf. Caymen seemed too slow and the
DSG gearbox in the Golf is utterly amazing.

I did one of those "drive a sportscar round a racetrack" things a year
or so back, which i was given as a birthday present. I drove a Cayman
    S. I can assure you that a Cayman S is a ****-sight slower (seeming,
at least), and considerably less fun to drive than my RX-8.

Next Friday my boss is treating me and a few others to a full day at
    http://www.palmersport.com/

You could say I'm looking forward to it a little, because they've got
    some seriously nice toys there.

yes - I looked into that a little way back as a team bonding type
experience - it looks great. Then I got made redundant which kind of
sort of put the kibosh on the plan.

I don't know why they ever made the horrible little abortion. The
Boxter and the 911 complement each other perfectly and I can't see a gap
in the model range. Yeah sure the 911 is pricey but if you won't spend
that much wedge you buy pre loved. And the sales volumes of the
abortion must have been lamentable, in the UK at least. I rarely see
    one.

Note to Champ. Fit tottie in tight top displaying chapel hatpegs
    driving her own 911. 10/10

I can see why Clarkson calls it the "Coxster"
have you seen the new golf-based "little boxster"? It's like a fucking
MR2 roadster. It's a disgrace to the Porsche badge.
