I do believe I managed it.

  1. I'm not arguing about anything.

So what if the car costs 70k, if the paint is viewed as being
environmentally damaging why the **** should that car get the damaging
paint yet a modest car shouldn't?

OK, you can argue about volumes of product sure. You can also argue if
someone can afford to chuck 70k at a car then they can afford to chuck a
few k at it to get it resprayed occassionaly.

Maybe they should dip paint the entire chassis, like they do for all
    the other Volkswagens..

    Hehe.

I must say I find it quite amusing that some of the Cayennes and
Panameras use the same engine as my VW, only without the DSG
    gearbox...

But I don't see what chassis paint has to do with bodywork finishes!

A paint is only as good as the base coat, yes? Well if the entire car
is dipped in the electrolytic primer once assembled it's going to form
a better base than your cheap and nasty porsche paint.

Not being a paint engineer I have no idea. But I suggest dropping a complex
shape into a container of fluid isn't necessarily the best way to get
    complete coverage and even deposition.

As none of the cars under discussion has a separate chassis, it's a
moot point anyway. But I'm sure you realised that Ginge was referring
    to the entire body.

ITYF that some electrickery is involved, so it's more like an anodised
coating. The clue is the term 'electrolytic primer'.

Yes but a fine mist or plasma chamber should still be superior, probably
still using an electrically charged environment.

That's not quite right. They do still have a monocoque chassis onto which
some of the external finish panels still fix, but inclusive of an obvious
    part like the roof.

But this all gets away of my thought that limited production cars shouldn't
be stitched up in a catch all driven by environmental concerns with mass
manufacture. If indeed they actually are, as Beav alluded to.

IMHO everything should be treated equally with regards to
environmental concerns. The right approach would be to draw a line
under the best current standards then bring everybody below those
standards up to spec, globally, using every feasible means to do so.

Sure, this would shit on China's cornflakes, but it needs to happen at
    some point.

Ahh OK. Let's not allow those minor technical details get in the way
of the important things though, like reminding Hog that his much
beloved 911 is essentially just another Volkswagen.

Well I don't have any environmental concerns but I don't much go for one

  19. If the paint is damaging it's damaging.

Stop complaining and get the car repainted when it needs it. Or lobby
Porsche to put an extra coat on.

But I already had Beav put a proper finish on the porker as has been
    said in this NG.

It isn't too little paint, it just isn't possible to get show quality
finishes using this water based shite in a production environment. And
I don't believe for a second that having proper paint on every upmarket
car for the rest of time would make a blind bit of difference to any
    environment.
