I didn't realise.....

I normally just potter round on my own on the bike, go out for a good run
now and again, and the odd "I'm late" thrash to work.....

Yesterday I had a day off so I decided to go out for a run, met a friend who
I hadn't seen for a while, (and didn't even know had a bike) and we went for
    a wee run....

About 5 seconds in, I realised I ride my bike like an old fart....

I thought I was doing fairly well, but where I would take a corner at say
40-50 he was taking it a good bit quicker....

Made me realise how much more riding practice I need :(

    Any Tips????

You need to start thinking like an OF:
"I'm on the pace. He's a tearaway who's going to crash sooner or later."

Now, what about that wee run? I hope you mopped it up.

I thoroughly enjoyed it.... made a nice change, better than being stuck in
    my cage,
or behind my office desk during the day... :)

I do have a bit of a hankering for a slightly tourquier bike though... :)

Depends on the corner and your mate, really. He could just have a
bike-sized hole in the hedge waiting for him...

Work on your positioning. Get a copy of Motorcycle Roadcraft, and
consider some advanced training: it can be quite cheap, especially the
stuff run by the local council/police, if there is such a scheme in your
    area.

It won't make you race-track fast, but it will improve your confidence and
will probably make you a faster rider without you having to do anything
stupid. Unless you want to, of course.

Go to library or bookshop, borrow or buy book on "Advanced
Motorcycling", read cover to cover and practice... Then get your mate
to follow you and give a critique after 30 miles or so...

If you are anywhere near Reading, give us an email addy, I like
    evening rides...

    Good luck... :)
