I know. I couldn't be arsed to look out all the prices being offered
but at that price I'd still be tempted. The lights may dip wrongly on a
parallel but that's easily cured and it's not as if Champ will ever be
worried about residual values and selling the bike on later.

The only things I can think of are possibly restricted (French) and
headlights dipping the wrong way. The headlights can be sorted dead
easy by looking on any race forum and buying parts from a bike that's
    never been on the road.

Obviously the residual value will be lower due to it being cheaper in
the first place. This doesn't matter a flying **** if you're selling
it privately and don't tell the potential buyer. Do you really think
Champ is likely to be trying to punt it out as A1 condition in a
    couple of years time?

It'll be a good buy for someone. It's always been serviced and it's
never been down the road in a big way. AFAIA the only things wrong are
a few scuffs from his low speed new tyre episode, a few more from when
he rode it down a stream bed and possibly a bit of gaffer tape work
from the crow strike. Give it a new set of plastics and it'll be fine.

You're about right. I've looked over it and there's only cosmetic damage
to the plastics, a lot of which Champ has already bought replacements
    for.

How old though? I doubt if you'll get a good condition E1 or newer for
    that money.

I've just spotted 5 different dealers knocking them out at £7k or just
under. It's really down to where you want to get it from but when you
consider the fact that you'll take it to Frasers for servicing it
    doesn't really matter a ****.

  11. What are they like from a pillion's perspective? I doubt very much the
Fazer will be back on the road so I'll need to start considering a
    replacement.

Looks fine in the flesh. Plus, when you're on it, you can't see it.

But the gixer is at least a grand's worth better in all respects.

They're no more powerful when you change the stock exhaust for a race
can, which is the first thing you'd do. All the restriction in an E
model is in the catalyst, which sits in the end can.

That's contrary to what I've heard, they have the same compression
ratio, combustion chamber volume, valves, cam profiles and carbs. When
you look at the specs there's no difference until you get to the end can
    and find a catalyst.

Having owned and ridden both, I find the Gixer has more power, is
lighter, is easier to turn in and ride balls out without getting out of
shape. This is even after I'd fitted the Ohlins to the 9R, and comparing
it to the standard gixers I've ridden.

Maybe you've just got a downer on the gixer for some reason, but other
people I know who've owned both are in total agreement with me on this.
My only real critcism of both bikes is regarding the brakes, they're
    absolute fucking shite.
