    Well - i did it.

The good I went out to see a 99 model ZX-9R on Tuesday, test rode
it, and picked it up for $5000!!

The not so good It has no rego, and needs a bit spent on it. EG
Rear brake pads, Stearing head bearing, Chain/Sprocket, Carbs will
probably need to balanced, rear tire, aparantly the front wheel needs
staightening, and minor items for RWC - (like the micron muffler coming
off to pass) - the original muffler came with the bike, as did a gear
rack/sack. Bloody bargain I reckon. Should be on the road for 6.5 to 7
    with 12mnths reg.

Anyone recommend insurance?? - Arista who I have used in the past
reckon it needs to be stored in 4 enclosed walls in a locked up garage
to insure it..... Wankers. I've got a carport with an 8 foot iron fence
and 2 massive lockable gates and they won't accept it.

Give me a nod if you see a red zx-9 WITH a micron muffler on the road.
    Cheers,
    G.

Swann, Western QBE, NRMA, google for the rest. And just in case you
think we care how greatly the quotes differ between companies... think
    again :)

I ensured the Cagiva and the Gilera with Arista, for reasons not worth
going into* I'm not too happy with 'em

    JL
*neither have been bent, just some silly buggers around t's and c's and
    premiums

Mate, I've always been insured with Swann. When some feeelthy fvcker stole
my Duc, they paid up with no hassles despite the garage door being
inoperable and open at the time (thanks to some moron who drove into it). I
have no reservation when recommending these guys - they even have a human
answer the phone (though it's been a while).

Good luck and congrats on the ZX-9R. I'm told they're one of the fastest "A
to B" bikes around (whatever the hell that's supposed to mean). I guess in
the case of the salesman who told me that, it meant he could get from home,
across Sydney and to work and back faster on the ZX-9R than he could on
anything else (and that bastard can ride).

    Cheers,

Ditto for Swann, they coughed up on the TRX without *too* much hassle
(took a couple of months but I wasn't chasing them real hard)

Yep I recommend Swann, paid out on my bike and never refused insurance
on the new one and the premium only went up about $45.00

It only took Swann 6 working days at their end to sort out everything
with my XX and get a cheque to me in the mail.

Mixed emotions on that one. They gave to my need for speeeeeed, but they
took away that goooorgeous orchestra from my ears. I miiissss that sound
(as do the neighbours I'm sure!).

And Crazy Cam has banned me from considering noisy pipes on the Bird! ;-)

Confusion reigns. "Swann" is an IAG (ie: NRMA) brand, surely that
makes them the root of all evil?

    CGU, I think.

They specialise in Motorbikes, and have assessors that understand bikes.
I'm told that means that it's a little more difficult to put one over
on them, but it also means you get a fairly professional and moderately
    sympathetic assessment.

The assesor who quoted on my bike last year accepted the claim for
replacing the pannier that had a small dent, but suggested to the
repairer that "If it was me I'd keep the pannier and use the payout to
soak up the excess". He was also apparently quite aware that while the
quote he approved for repainting one section of fairing was from a
top-dollar painter, I'd probably use the payout to get the whole fairing
resprayed by a slightly cheaper tradesman (which I did).

And they were quite prompt with doing the assessment and making the
payout. My premium hasn't changed. It seems they accepted that having
your bike fall off its centre stand when the bitumen melts is a no-fault
    type of thing.

Very happy with their car and house insurance: we've claimed on
    both with no worries.

My bike is with QBE, since they paid out the one claim I've ever
made without complaint, and so I've never really had a reason to change.

Had two claims with Swann in the last 3 years and they have been pretty
good, if a bit slow. No experience with QBE or NRMA, so they might be
    just as good.

  20. Don't know about that, then again, I don't give a tinker's about Swann.
    NRMA have looked after me......
