I met him at the bar in The Pinks Hotel on Shenley Ridge behind the
MGM/Elstree? Studios where they had billeted me. [1]

I was an apprentice working at Boreham Wood on a 6 month transfer from
Rochester.

He was nice enough to ask what I was doing and was I staying at the
hotel and some small talk till his guest arrived. The way I looked at it
he could have just ignored me but chose to be polite.

[1] Full of starlets auditioning on their backs. I'd park in an empty
car park at 7pm. Bed at 10pm (up early in the morning). In the morning
it would be full of high price cars. *Lots* of stories about that place.
