I did - the fact the other thread was started by BORG as a direct
result of this one, & shortly after I posted the above, you made the
"clown shoes" post, which I thought was aimed at me coz of the Krusty
thing. So not really *that* tenuous, but apologies if I got the wrong
    end of the stick.

I think you know what I meant judging by what you said below.
Meaningless semantics - please let's not get into a grammar/language
debate. It was a fairly sarcastic poke, nothing more. I do think people
who make *on-topic* commercial posts should just get a warning for a
first offence, then a damn good kicking if they ignore it. The majority
of Internet users don't even know Usenet exists, & if they stumble
across it, they sure as hell won't know where to find a charter, or
even what one is. I know that's not the case with the OP who appears to
    just be a lying ****.

I don't buy the whole 'UKRM would be riddled with spam if we weren't so
tough' line. None of the other groups I'm subscribed to get any more
spam than here, & aren't anywhere near as viscious in responding to the
spam they do get. And anyone who thinks the career spammers will even
know or care about UKRM's reputation for spam-killing is seriously
    deluded!

As well it should. Top-posting invariably leads to lack of snipping,
which costs some people real money. Top-posters do however usually get
a polite request to post at the bottom & read the FAQ. The same
courtesy should be applied to on-topic commercial posts imho. I know
I'm in the minority with that opinion though.

  6. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember Pip
You did, Oscar, you did. My contribution was entirely independent.

So where do you draw the line then? According to your definition, it
wouldn't be hypocritical to chastise someone for speeding in a 30 limit
& then speeding on a motorway yourself, as they have different offence
codes. Or doesn't that count in your opinion because they're both
speeding? Or both breaking traffic rules? What about parking on double
yellow lines versus parking in a permit area out of the allowed hours -
hypocritical or not? Semantics & interpretation.

The difference between dictionary definitions & popular usage has been
done to death numerous times. If you don't think disobeying some laws
yourself whilst having a pop at others for disobeying different laws
could be construed by some as hypocritical, then you're wrong.

You don't think the comment "After all, rules are rules & anyone who
breaks them should be punished in the severest way allowed." was
    sarcastic? Are you American?
It obviously matters to you otherwise you wouldn't have replied - so
thanks for letting me know - makes me feel all warm & fluffy inside.

  8. Yes. HTH.

One year a couple of people had an account trashing competition, IIRC.

The easiest way to stop the Des baiting is to simply stop biting, all
    the time.
