... to John Higgins, of this parish.

Elly is currently 'familiarising' herself with her new lappy, and
lovely it is too. Nice one, John.

Not only this, but collecting it gave me the opportunity to hoon
across the countryside 'on a mission', making A road overtakes in
direct confrontation(1) with those who seem to have lost the ability,
and harass those who retain it (a Seat Leon RS driver, for example,
who gave best and pulled into a layby (which was pretty sporting, as
he was holding me up but I couldn't pass him safely)). I've not had
the chance for a hoon in a car like that for a while, and while the
1.8 406 is far from being a devastatingly fast cross-country missile,
it gave a very fair account of itself. Despite not being possessed of
    a Golf floorpan.

I did appreciate Loz's recent MK dilemma however, as the brake pedal
firmed up considerably, whilst the brake effectiveness declined,
roundabout by roundabout. This culminated in a handbrake-assisted
stop at an unexpected set of traffic lights on a roundabout(2), at the
moment of realisation of imminently impending overshoot ... followed
by a frankly embarrassingly long halt for *no other vehicles crossing
the path* whilst watching the friction lining smoke billowing from the
front wheelarches(4) and those stopped alongside avoided eye contact
    in a very obvious manner.

Anyway, thanks to John facilitating the deal, I've had a day out with
a hoon and a hoot, and found a very nice little Fuller's pub in
Chipping Norton who really know how to keep and present a pint of ESB.

I've also found a completely new way of navigating 'B' road corners
that have recently been resurfaced with slippery tarmac, were covered
in rainwater and smeared with farmer's droppings. If one is in the
right gear at the right time and the whole plot starts to make
progress towards the opposite verge, if one digs the throttle a good
one and applies nibbles of handbrake, one can thruppeny bit one's way
around the corner quite happily, avoiding oncoming as one goes, while
still maintaining a decent rate of progress ;-)

All in all, a good day, and a fine way to celebrate it no longer being
the anniversary of one's birth. Top job.

    1. Why do just-overtaken drivers feel the pressing need to flash
their headlights at the driver who has just overtaken them, on a
straight(ish) road, with no screamingly close oncoming vehicles, when
they've been given as much space as possible when alongside and a good
wide berth when pulling back in front of them?

    2. Where the ****** did they come from(3)?

    3. And why, FFS?

    4. For no good reason, my hands and forearms still stink of roasting
    Ferodo.

I misread that as "roasting Frodo".
