Is it as easy as putting the lights on and seeing if the bulbs get brighter when revving the engine?
It was on Sally's CBR400. Brighter means _significantly_ brighter though. If only one of the three phases is knackered, the brightness will go up a tiny amount.
In uk.rec.motorcycles, Monkey amazed us all with this pearl of wisdom: I'm not asking because I think one is knackered I'm going to have a look at a bike today and the reg/rec has been cited as one of the things likely to fry. So if the thing gets brighter (the lights) that's a good thing yes? Unless they go bulb poppingly bright? I've never bought a really SOB before so don't know these things. In uk.rec.motorcycles, Nursey amazed us all with this pearl of wisdom: Heh. If I'm passing a Maplin's in Morden (pretty much where the bike is) I reckon a tenner on a crappo meter's going to be a wise investment

I thinks you've hit on a way for WC to test his Reg Rec there. The pitch of the scream should be proportional to the voltage. Or is it that the angle of the dangle is inversely proportional to the heat of the meat?
