I like working in London and the nightlife rocks, but I'm glad I don't live
    there.
    One of London's finer attractions

I've always felt that it's hideously expensive to live there and takes
forever to get in to town from anywhere you can afford to live. However,
there's certainly a lot to do and the South West Trains service out of
Waterloo is pretty good. I visited a friend of mine in Surbiton whilst I
was in London last week, and I could cope with living somewhere like that,
an easy 30 minutes from Waterloo.

However, all too many folk seem to have journeys like one of my other
friends, who expected it to take him nearly two hours to get back home
from Soho. I could get back to Cheltenham in not much more time, (less,
if the Gatsos on the A40 have been nobled).

It takes me about 25 minutes to get from Twickenham to Covent Garden, and 40
    on the trains.

  4. Ah no, not that one - the mad old one in the three-storey corner house who
puts ribcages out in the road for the pigeons. I kid you not, several huge
ribs appeared behind the van one day.
    This one's worse.
That woman from the council looked like she might have eaten it if the
    cameras hadn't been there.

  5. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "Mungo \"two sheds\" Toadfoot"
Ah yes, her. Mr Trebus's sister, quite likely.

Gad, she was a bit of a bruiser, wasn't she?

    This may be true.
    This isn't, imo.
It's 32 minutes from the house I own to London Fenchurch Street. I
    reckon that's pretty good.

Champ - the anti-Londoners never come out and say that. If they would
just say that they don't like cities, then fine. They always say that
it's grubbier than Barcelona, or that property is cheaper in Seoul, or
that New York has better nightclubs, or whatever.

I maintain that overall - for everything that you'd want in a city,
London is the best in the world, with a couple of close rivals.

So you really _do_ trawl through every usenet post to find mentions
    thereof. Very sad.

FWIW I quite enjoyed the five-hour visit I made there about fifteen
    years ago...

I don't like big cities. They're OK to visit, but how anyone could
want to live in one I'll never know.

As cities go, Basel is OK, but then it's only a tenth of the size of
    London. Paris stinks.
Yeah, so what? It's true (prolly).
You can get all the 'good' things about a city somewhere much smaller,
with added access to decent countryside and the possibilty of it not
being a stinking cesspit. It's a perfectly reasonable view taken by
many 'anti-Londoners' and nothing you say will make it any less true.
