How Stable is STA-BIL??

I got this container of STA-BIL, maybe 6 years old, in a 4 oz can like the
old lighter fluid cans (with a squirt spout). Sez 4 oz treats 5 gal's of
gas. Maybe 2 oz left. Can looks fine, no rust or anything.

My old CBR has about 4.25 gals of gas in the tank. Winter storage is
std issue: 3-4 months in a garage. In the midwest US.

So I pick up a new jug of STA-BIL, fancy-dancy calibrated plastic
container, stuff is red in color. Sez 1 oz treats 2.5 gal.

    Old - 2 oz treats 2.5 gal
    New - .7 oz treats 1.75 gal

    4.25

I don't necessarily trust this stuff. Should I mix the old and the new?
I guess if I were to pitch the old, I oughta have some justification.

Put another way: would -you- mix the old and new, given differing
    mixture ratios, etc?

    Cheers,

No, given the age of the old. Read the label again. Mine says it's only
    good for 2 years.

The little bit that I had, which was maybe 3-4 years old, was decidedly more
brown than pink and had some kind of residue in the bottom of the bottle.
It got "used" in my everyday vehicle at a rate of about 1 OZ per 10 gallons.

That's how I get rid of my left-over 2-cycle mix each spring too.

Why bother? Just use up the old bottle and then start with the new
    stuff.
    Don't worry, be happy.

Sta-Bil is 95% light petroleum distillate (1) and it will *never* go
    bad on you.

It's inert, except with respect to gum and varnish, which it
    dissolves.

It might evaporate if you left the uncapped container in the sun all
    summer in Death Valley...

    (1) CAS 64742-47-8 is an oily distillate of crude oil, maybe a little
    heavier than kerosene.
