How much is my Guzzi worth?

I'm curious that's all. I've had it over 12 years and it's evolved over
    that time to this:
    http://www.sweller.dynalias.org/images/guzzi-010706.jpg

Was an ex-Spanish police 1979 850-T3. Now has Le Mans spec engine
(pistons, heads, iron barrels, flywheel, modified manifolds), auto cam
chain adjuster, 40mm Dell Ortos, Lucas ignition, Suprissa alternator,
4-pot Brembos, braided hoses throughout, alloy rimmed wire wheels, Le
Mans 2 piece cast disks, s/s exhaust, all s/s fasteners, sump extension,
oversize breathers, Tarozzi rear sets, rebuilt gearbox and bevel box, air
assisted forks from later machines and amazingly OE LM1 rear shocks.

Looking at my records (which sort of prompted the query) I've spent
£7,500 on it in that time. That's buying it, tyres, oil, crash repairs,
service parts, fasteners, performance bits and the like.

How does that compare with a modern bike?

    ****.

Proper bike - I'd have that.....

(Ridden a couple, but never *owned* a Guzzi...)

And me. Like a stealth Lemon.
Used to have a V50. Sweet handling, loads of character. Bike I most regret
    selling.

I'm 6ft and I found it fine. No leg problems at all.

It had a combination of sweet handling, good looks (at least to my taste),
great sound and had the attraction (this was 1980-ish) of being put together
with allen bolts not reconstituted milk bottle caps. Its slowness was
irrelevant to the riding I was doing then. I sold it and got a YPVS - great
bike, but not a patch on the Guz.

There's nothing stealthy about it. It sets off car alarms.

I've only ridden one and it felt nervous. They had a deserved reputation
    for having fragile heads.

Funnily enough it was your comments on the classic group about hunting
for a Guzzi that started the thought process.

I was trying to put into some context the cost of the bike. If I'd
bought a brand new bike with character for £7,500 12 years ago how much
    would it be worth now?

Is the rise in old prices because modern Guzzis are fashionable or more
that the old Guzzis are actually good, affordable and usable classics?
The old Brit iron is either overpriced or shit - or both.

I regret not getting the the 750 S3 I was once offered. Actually at the
time I couldn't afford it but that's not the point.

In retrospect I've ended up unconsciously fashioning mine along those
hunched lines of the old S3s and V7 Sports.

A Harley is probably a good example but I have no idea about prices,
    depreciation and the like.

I was thinking more of the colour scheme than the sound.

Well, we know that it's faster than and handles better than a GSX-R1000,
after Champ overtook me on that corner...

I had a girfriend many many years ago who owned one, she rode it
everywhere at 50-55mph and wouldn't consider selling it and buying
something more reliable. I rode it once and found out why they were so
popular with girls - the vibes at 50-55mph were incredible. Fucking
thing was always in Coburn and Hughes being fixed though.

Me too, but she was ****, so I fucked her off.

who owned one, she rode it
My sis is interested in my VN 750, so when I've done the engine overhaul,
it's a distinct possibility she'll have a vibrator once again. (To add to
her no doubt already comprehensive collection)

Where this clueless **** apparently hails from, dyke has a completely
different meaning. You'd need more than one finger to stop this one
    dribbling on, too.
