About sixty police bikes in one car park, it must be the Bikesafe event
at Cheltenham Racecourse this weekend. As the sun was shining and my
new lid still needed christening I decided to go out for a bimble and
take a look. The show wasn't much cop but I did get an assessed ride
    which I was pleased with.

You could either take a demonstrator from one of the dealers at the
show or ride your own bike. As the last time I was assessed on the road
was in '93 during my test I was more interested in the assessment than
a jolly on some new bike so took my own. I'm sure many of you have done
these rides before but it's really weird when you look behind before an
overtake and see the fully marked up bike on your arse ;-)

If you are in the area tomrrow then I would recommend a visit. And if
you want a ride on one of the demonstrators then I suggest you get
there early and you need to have your licence with you.
If you are not in the area tomorrow then remember there are 60 less
Police bikes around the country this weekend, including the
    Policeblade. :)

  2. thanks for the info. As the only assessment I've undertaken was my test
I wouldn't mind (free :)) expert opinion. Do they get cater for 33
horse persons and do I need to arrange my own insurance to use a
demonstrator? Also, as I'd come on the train, do I need to bring my
helmet/jacket/trousers or can I get it there?

    many thanks, Pete

As I said, I rode my own bike so I'm not sure of the details on the
    load bikes but...
I'm not sure, the main dealers were there and were loaning the bikes
out. I don't know if any of them met your requirements. I saw some
BMWs, a fireblade, some Ducatis, a GSXR... TBH I doubt I would have
    noticed a 33bhp bike anyway.
I think you would ride on the dealer's insurance. I don't know for sure
but I expect this is standard demonstrator cover, i.e. third party
only; you bend it you pay for it. You need to leave your licence with
the dealer during the ride although with a copper riding pursuit I
don't know where they think you might go with it.
Definitely bring your own if you want a ride.

They also had some scooters going round a cone course if that helps.
