How long to get to the clutch on a K1200RS?

    Eight hours, apparently.

That's got to be a bit of inspired design. Let's put all the bits that might
wear out where you can't get to them.

That's just to find out what the problem is. I assume it's another eight
hours to put it all back together again.

The clutch hasn't worn out, they're guessing, but is contaminated.

These bikes have dry clutches but they've positioned the master cylinder
where it can spray fluid all over the plates if it leaks.

I'm bloody glad this is a warranty job.

Must be taking off all the plastic that takes the time. It looks like

you could simply undo a few bolts and lower it away on a trolley jack.

  3. This sounds like utter bollocks to me.

Unless they actually site the master cylinder inside the engine, which
    would be a first.

Or perhaps you mean slave cylinder?

Is this still Coopers in Reading or elsewhere?

    On a BMW-related note, I haven't ridden mine in over a month. I'm sick
    of the sight of it.

Must chase up the dealer about the missing crash-bar, too.

Quite possibly. I thought he said master but now you mention it, slave would
    make more sense.

Elsewhere. Coopers wouldn't look at the bike as they say there is an
    unresolved legal issue.

I think there is also the unresolved issue of them being a useless bunch of
    greedy, clueless cunts.

Which reminds me: I must write to my solicitor.

I've just found out that this would have cost over £900 had it not been
    warranty.

At £65/hour that's only 13 hours so I don't know where eight hours
    disassembly time comes from.

Judge scribbled on the back of a napkin:
FFS, doesn't anybody do *any* research anymore before buying a bike?

All Ks and the oilheads have been designed after the following
    conversation:

Engineer 1, holding up a clutch plate:

    "Vot iz ziz?"

Engineer 2: "Itz a clutch plate"

E1: "Vot do we do wif it?"

E2: "Design a bike around it".
Either that or the rear crank seal has given up the ghost. Happens
    occasionally.
