How have rising fuel prices changed your behaviour?

HTF do they calculate inflation rates these days, then? Can't be on
the RPI, as that's going through the roof. Mortgage rates haven't
exactly dropped over the last couple of years, and energy prices have
    rocketed, as have food prices.

    Muffins and smoothies. Or something.

I think they just move the goalposts to whatever sounds best. There
are so many different ways - the CPI, RPI, RPIX.....

I'm with you. I use as much fuel as possible to promote/speed up global
warming so that I can turn the fucking heating off. It's costing me a
    bastard fortune.

    Same with mine.

I used the fact it only burnt 1W on standby as my ecological
    justification for the purchase.

    :)

Now 300mm of insulation in the roof, extra 50mm under the flooring
Try to get son and SWMBO to turn off the lights (he gives ME grief for
    it!!!)
Tootle along in the car as much as possible, (but traffic flow means its
difficult to travel at much above 55 anyway on single carriageway roads
    anyway)
    Nothing on stand-by
Central heating stat down to 18 deg c for the house in general
BM K75S for longer runs if possible, F650 for town work
Telling employers to stuff 70 mile round trip commute and am getting job
    at walking distance from house
Buying house on main bus route in town so don't need a car to get about
House also within walking distance of shops and supermarkets, doctors,
    train station and dentists, etc
On-line shopping were possible to save travel costs
Considering possible solar heating for hot water and heat pump in new
house as we intend to stay for a few years.

Before I had kids, I never drove a car for 12 years, but at the moment,
the car has to stay. Same goes for the TV as well....(if I had a TV
    before I had kids, then maybe I wouldn't have had kids ; - )

I realised I probably should get the boiler serviced, it's now 9 years
old. Must need a fettle to make it more efficent again.

And I changed the thermostat to 19C, and the timing on the central
heating so it's never on when I'm asleep.

    And.. uhmm, well...

I'm getting an average 36-38 MPG out of my current diesel compared to
about 24mpg from my old petrol. (lots of stop-start city commuting, not
    good for MPG).

    That's about it.

Walking in preference to short car journys, smaller car. Bike in pref to
    car.

Unfortunately the downside of working from home is using more electricity

I should be collecting my new diesel Volvo next week,
then I'll drive slowly while wearing a hat and do my best
to prevent the queue of cars behind overtaking, thus improving
their fuel consumption as well as mine.

    <shuffles guilty>

Jake Gyllenhaal gives me the 'orn.
Not sure that's a good thing.. Unless you support New Zealand!

Still (she said unpatriotically) in a plus for me, Trescothick has
retired from international crickettoday meaning he'll be fully
available for Somerset, which is a huge bonus for us. Hurrah for
    xenophobia (or whatever it was)!

    Nothing.

My two routes into work would be via A&E if I cycled and I am not that
    keen on NHS food.

The bulbs in the house are nearly all energy saving type and those that
aren't now will be once they expire.

What about the overheating caused by their rising blood pressure?
They'll have to whack on the air con and that will just ruin the fuel
    economy...

V50 S 2.0D. It's the best deal in this year's Motability scheme, IMHO.
