  3. ****, that's about the same power-to-weight ratio as a moped.

Would only do about 15mph, mind... so yeah, very much like a moped.

Oh, and I misrembered the weight - should have been 150,000 tons,
    apparently. Still bloody big, mind.

Not at all unusual. You'd be amazed how many people buy R1's and 6's before
    they even book their CBT's.
    Fair play.
The first time he opens the throttle he'll get a surprise/shock. The first
time he opens it in the wrong place he might die.
A recent student who just passed his DAS told me he'd bought a B12. I
actually thought it was a good choice. The problem with buying "tame" bike
is they're get really boring quickly.

Oh very good. Laugh? I nearly started.

AAMOI the scaffolding had been removed before I sailed on her[1] four
years later, but the paintwork wasn't in much better state.

[1] No, I'm not anal about this, but 'it' just isn't right.

A previous employer had an HQ adjacent to a bus depot above which was
a car park so I often had to walk through this. Occasionally bus
spotters would be seen, I can't see the fascination but surely there's
no challenge in spotting a bus at a bus depot?

750 at 17, although it was a T140V so not over powered.

I went from 125 learner to GT750 straight away, followed shortly by
GPZ1100 and Blackbirds after that. I did take the advice of my DAS
instructor and did an afternoon with him on a CB500 after my test,
which I think was a help...

Many people will have an accident as they learn to ride properly in
    all weathers - I know I did, but it's just luck/fate/something else
which determines whether you live to learn from it or not.

I worked my way up slowly over a number of years as I couldn't do DAS.I
had a TS50X, then an Aprilia AF1125[1], an Aprilia RS125, an
    SV650S[1][1][1], a Triumph Daytona[1] and a ZX10R[1].

I'm not sure that my way is better.

Good luck to your mate - he's in a better position than I was - I
originally wanted a ZX6R instead of the SV, but I couldn't afford
    it/the insurance.

Platforms are cool. I've been working on a decompression chamber today
and during a chat with the engineer in charge of the project I found
out that we were on the a semi-submersible at the same time.

He was disgusted when he found out that I'd had my timesheets signed
off for time spent sunbathing on the helideck in exchange for me
working some stupid hours for a couple of days.

I went from a Suzuki GP125 to a Katana 1100 on the day I passed.

    That was in 1985.
