How easy?

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Grimley_Feindish, Nov 17, 2004.

  1. I've just SORNd my ZX10R over the internet. Unbelievably quick and easy.
Apparently I can renew the tax over the net as well - finally they do
    something good [1]

Having see the mess two winters made to my ZX9R when I had it, even with
thorough washing, I have no intention of riding the ten on salty roads so
hopefully no tax will hold temptation at bay.

[1] cue someone to tell me DVLA have been doing this for ages.

    <genuine enquiry>

How do you show them your Insurance and MOT, then?

I can't see anywhere to either SORN or tax online. There's a link to
download the SORN document to post to them, but can't see anything to
    actually do the deed online.

Salad Dodger emerged from their own little world to say
Insurance details are on a database as the police use it. However, I can't
see the MOT system going electronic for some time to come. Fag sales would
have to increase a lot to pay for the infrastructure.

Surely if you are declaring SORN then you don't need insurance or an MOT for
    the bike?

Re the SORN - don't think for a minute that you can forget to do it,
get a failure notice plus penalty from DVLA, then send them a copy of a
SORN PDF you've rapidly downloaded, completed, backdated, and sent in
with an indignant letter saying " you obviously missed this form when I
originally sent it in to notify you" and then expect to have them waive
    the penalty, etc.

  17. www.dvla.gov.uk/vehiclelicence

Apparently the DVLA will electronically check databases for a valid Vehicle
insurance (UK) and a valid test certificate (if needed). The tax disc will
be delivered within 5 working days. I'll find out how well it works in march
I guess, unless winter is short lived and we get a lot of rain in Feb to
    wash the roads down :)

If an MOT applies you need a new style computerised MOT certificate. Not
seen one of these myself. Most major insurers maintain databases for
insurance checks. Anything that avoids social interaction in a post office
has got to be a good thing.

  18. A tempting and I have to say very generous offer but sadly on this occassion
I must decline. You are very welcome to come and clean the spiders off it in
Spring though 'cos I really don't like them very much :)

  20. If it's the same tests that coppers use at "side of the road tests",
then it won't be very good. I got a ticket for having no insurance and
no fucking tax, fer Christ's sake. I handed all my docs in at the local
nick and |I'm still waiting for a court appearance date about the tax.
Not got one of those, I've got the written sort.
