Yes they are. Or in my case just top-level posts in the same thread,
depending on newsreader settings.

The Usenet standard is to use the References header, which the new GG
interface doesn't include. That's hardly the fault of my (standards
compliant) newsreader.

Now that's interesting - now you've made me look, and indeed I can see
that a couple (but not all, not even most) of his replies have indeed
appeared at the top level, albeit in the right thread and in the right
timeline.

<shrug> whatever - they appear in the right place of the right thread
in my newsreader at the time I'm reading them. Good enough for me.
