I'm surprised it still resembled a battery.

Tyres have a date code look in the serial number in the moulding. They
have had this for quite a few years now.

You could dip them in melted wax....

If it was many years ago it'd have been a zinc-carbon battery - which
had too high an internal resistance to do themselves much harm.

    were saying :
    Sure they're not 220/55?

You'd be better off commending the use of a newsreader which wouldn't
    wrap URLs.

You can't. Age is age. An old tyre is an old tyre regardless of what you do
    to it.

Sell the tyres to someone who will use them now. Put the money in the bank
to earn interest. When you need tyres, buy them with the money in the bank.

What if those tyres are no longer available then?

18" motorcycle tyres for 120 110 and 100 sizes are going to become more
and more scare in the coming years. And as such more and more expensive.

Not hands on, but a neighbour in Italy works in a tyre warehouse. I've
seen the palce and they store tyres outdoors, some of them for a few
years at a time. To protect them they are wrapped in an opaque polythene
film (blue) then stored on their sides in racks. Never store tham
standing up as they would be on a car because they develop flat spots.

Judging by the temperature that things left in the sun get to in Italy,
temperature doesn't seem that critical. Damage done by sunlight to tyres
    does.

Couldn't resist, I'd reckon they are either pre 1990 Jaguar XJ40 tyres
(Dunlop) or for a similar era BMW 7-series.

Recently bought an old saab, the rear tyres were Michelin ZX 165x15, fronts
were XZX. Checked date codes, worked out rears were made in '75, fronts '82!
    Still looked/drove pretty good!

I did change them, but kept the XZX as spares as they're pretty good
    tyres....

  20. not really. you can never really guarantee that, and it might not even be
the newsreader that breaks 'em, although that's most likely.
