how do i service my 85' VF1000

  1. I did that with a workmate, years ago. He'd never done even an oil
change before, so got him to turn up with oil and filter for his bike
and we did both his and my bike together.

Problem was, I got so distracted that I dropped the engine oil out of
mine, and then proceeded to (attempt to) put 5 litres of new engine oil
straight into the beemers gearbox fill-hole.

not common but not hard to ID anything obviously and genericallyh wrong with
    it.

Give me an experienced mechanic with no workshop manual over an amateur with
a lost manual and a TwoDollarShop set of tools any day.

Will mark the diary - 28/29 sounds great! Will email you as the time
gets closer, to see if it's still ok.

    Thanks heaps,

Besides; no good mechanic would let a someone else touch his tools.

    That's an excellent concept.
Generally all you need is a friend though. It's amazing what you can
achieve when you know you've got someone a-phone-call-away to bail you out
    if you f#ck up!
Recommended process would be to ring him/her first and say "I'm thinking
about re-sleeving my helical surge router....." and then making a few notes
when he says "make sure you denature the flange-wanger first". (And
hopefully tells you what special tools you might need).
Then go for it and genuinely try very hard to complete the job.
In my experience (s)he would be very happy to drop over and cast a critical
eye over the finished project or finish the unfinished project.

Older riders love passing on their knowledge. ('specially to people who make
    an effort!)

    I've got the 300 but I'm thinking of getting a 440.
The 300 can't really cope if the surge starts eddying.

I've got three hand-held routers, including a 3hp model which really needs
that soft start, and a spindle moulder. Where do I get a helical surge
    jobbie?

  10. For her to turn into a pizza and 6 pack after the aligning.
