You're right. I totally missed your point.

As it is, I've just paid a little bit more to get the cover I wanted and it
happens to include a few extras.

Therefore, I have no need to refer to ombudsman or other crap, I have
    decided with my wallet.

Yes, I had a look - unfortunately they lived up their name and wanted 28%
    More Than anyone else.

You mean, and stick the ventillation system back together with
Duck-tape to eke out a few extra years worth of wear'n'tear? Errr....

Hmm, I'm only with them through inertia. I took out the policy a few
years back when they were Royal Sun Alliance and left it there when
they became More Than because it seemed a pretty reasonable amount.

Might have to have a look at others.

  9. NU cover it under the Personal Belongings section but it's an extra to the
standard policy so you have to pay a few quid more. They recently paid out
for my helmet after I dropped it.

I put down my bike boots as safety equipement, with a totally free
conscience. As I do any other safety equipement, whether it be a
helmet, gloves or jacket... IT IS SAFETY EQUIPEMENT... The taxman so
far seems to be a cool guy...

If nothing else, claim back the tax... It helps you to be in
    safer/better shape for work... :)

So how do they define travelling to work 340 days a year by motorcycle
.. as your only means of transport? (We'll forget the 3 months that I
    drove JP's old Volvo...).

And what do they define as sporting kit? Most everything that bikers
generally wear... every journey, every day?

I've been seen around the office on dress-down days[1] in my leathers. On
the rare occasion that they've been remarked upon, I've pointed out that
they're "sportswear", and therefore as acceptable as the footie shirts every
    other **** is wearing.

    [1]now obsolete - we've gone[2] "smart casual"
[2]for a trial period, subsequently to be assesed for impact upon the
    business...

I, like you, would define it as a vehicle and the clothing as safety
    equipment.

But... the insurance companies don't. Which is the point. We can call
it what we like but the companies that underwrite it don't.

So, for the time being - rightly or wrongly, for the purposes of
    insurance it's sports equipment.

  15. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember HooDooWitch
I suppose it's fair enough - if your lid is damaged in an accident
caused by someone else, their ins co will pay; if you damage your lid
through riding off the road in a fit of exuberance, you'd just be glad
it saved your head and not mind the cost too much.

Helmets were specifically excluded. Leathers etc. were covered (by my
"normal" household ins.) as they were classed as clothing rather than
    sports kit.

But not on the policy I now have, where it's covered.

OR at least they claim it's covered.

I intend to not find out if I can.
