Hot grips (mini review)

Expect unseasonably warm weather from now until the summer. I fitted the
    heated grips today.

Not the easiest job, but not that bad. Getting the seat off was a puzzle,
getting the clip out of the battery box was a PITA :(

I spliced it into an ignition switched spur that the lads had kindly put my
    lubetronic on.

Main cables are just about long enough. Mine routes from udner the seat to
the control unit, folling the main wiring loom of the bike.

I had to cut the old grips to get them off, getting the new ones on was
worse. The clutch was OK, but the throttle was an arse. I eventually
resorted to clubbing the end of it to drive it on. When in 'place' I
realised that there is a ridge on the throttle tube to lock the old grip
on. Of course the new one won't fit over that, so it needs to come off for
    modification at some point

Biggest gripe is the control box. It's massive. There are no flat surfaces
up by the bars on a triple to fix it to, and the 'adhesive' tape on the
adapter to let it stick on the bars lasted about 20 mins. It's currently
cable tied to the bars. The other grip about it is that the cables from
the controlled to the plugs that connect to the batter / grips are not long
enough to allow the unit to be mounted anywhere else sensible. I might
have to do some more modifications to mount it somewhere less obtrusive.

I *knew* I'd forgotten something. Yes they are, lovely and toasty. The
back of the hands still gets a slight chill, but generally a far more
pleasant experience (not that it's particularly cold today)

I'd like to thank my mother, my father, the nice people at Oxford, the
chap that sold me the grips, Triumph, for making my Triple, and the guys at
Camriders for teaching me how to stay (mostly) upright

<fx bottom lip quivers with emotion>

These warm hands aren't just for me, they're for *all* the geeks that turn
up at work and mis-type the root password 15 times in sucession because
their hands have ceased to function.

Oxford yes? Was there a reason you chose that brand, or are they all
much the same? I've been trying to decide which brand to go for on my
    Speed Trip.

They were pretty much the same price as anything else that was at the show.
Oxford seem to have a pretty reasonable rep in the bike world, so that's
    what I grabbed.

But it was practically summery today, anyway - I was riding round with
my summer gloves on, and it was *great*.

Apart from the sewage leak in Corbridge. That wasn't great. Oh, no.

I must second that - I bought a set of Oxford grips - and had them
replaced three times in 6 months as they either burnt out, or in the
case of one set, the right hand one spilt from end to end (and then
slipped round and round on the throttle).

Finally got pissed of with the crap quality and bought the most
expensive HG ones (at about 40 quid) and they are still working
    perfectly 3 years later.
