Binding rear brake finally sorted[1] on the Pan. The fucking thing's been doing it on and off since I got it. It'd be OK for a while, then not OK, then OK, then not OK. Very frustrating. Finally, I decided to bite the bullet and replace the caliper. Uncle David Silver is closed for the hols, so a quick call to a breaker found one for 50 sheets. I arranged to collect it tomorrow, so tonight I dropped the old one off to take it along for comparison purposes. I cleaned it up, and was looking at the carrier when I noticed that one of the pins looked crooked. Closer inspection revealed that at some point in its career someone had managed to cross thread the thing, and it wasn't in the casting straight. Lightbulb! A quick tapping later and its straight again. Refitted, bled and bingo! No brake binding. This also explains the mystery of why the pads have never been that great a fit in the rear caliper, the misaligned pin left too large a gap at the end of the pads. Woo-hoo! Fifty quid saved. I'll give the breaker a quick bell in the morning to let him know I don't need the caliper after all. Nice one Squire. It's always a nice feeling to find the cause for a pain in the arse fault such as that. Especially one with a nice cheap fix too. JB
