HOORAH!

  1. Well chaps, it would appear I'm fully big-bike legal.

Passed yesterday with 2 minors for cancelling my indicator a little
    early on leaving roundabouts.

I'm scouring the classifieds for a good bike under a grand, preferably
a Bandit 6, Divvy 6, ER5, or maybe even an NTV 650 if I can find one.

Well done. Wait to see if BGNs passes it's MOT, you'd probably get that for
£2/3 plus the cost of the ticket.

Well done and welcome to the Dark Side.

Make that light grey then but I am sure you will learn and progress to
    better things.

Might I suggest that Sir could do worse than consider the GS500 as a
first proper big bike. Cheap(ish) fairly quick, uncomplicated
technically and in plentiful supply with no history of horrors and
    recalls and the like.

    Well done and welcome.

I have an ER5 and it's a nice bike - I might even sell it as I feel the need
to buy something new at Easter time. 1999, green, 12600 miles, one owner,
MOT to March or April but a 12 months ticket could go on it, taxed until
September, clean and tidy but not immaculate, good tyres - located in
Mid-Wales. I start haggling at £1150. I know that's more than your target
but you could probably use it for a season and then sell it without dropping
too much - it's the cost of ownership that counts.

I had a Divvy 6. OK, much faster than the ER but I always felt I had to work
hard to keep up the rate of progress, it was quite buzzy. I rode an NVT 650
and quite liked it but you will probably have to pay a lot more for one of
them than you will for an ER in the same condition (also not a current
model). The Honda CB500 has a good rep but may be a bit dear.

Well done and a good result.
Go for the Bandit 6, or indeed a 12. There's not a great deal of difference
in insurance, the 6 can be a bit wheezy. There are lots of cheap spares
available and they are fairly easy to kick into shape after you've dropped
    it. You will drop it.

  9. It Cheryl who is the Minor fanatic.. Personally I'd quite happily
hammer the damn thing flat and put it in a skip.

It does have its good points - it doesn't use much fuel and a full set
of tyres costs less than £100.

  10. What condition is the trim in?

Have you ever said, "That was a close shave", while sitting in it?

Auvache was telling me that the Bandit 600 I recently bought from him
was the only bike he's ever owned that he never dropped.

Embarrassing I know but true nonetheless.

In my defence I don't think I put more than 2 thousand miles on the
clock while I had it. If I had had it longer I would have, probably.

Mind you I probably wouldn't have picked it up again either, I really
    wasn't that fond of it.

  20. I'll not reply to all the messages individually, but hopefully you'll
all see this one. I'm sorry for the late response, but I only checked
    the NG today!

Thanks, and yes Dave, I fully intend to kill myself riding up and down
    the country!

    I'm looking at a CB500 on ebay (
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1997-HONDA-CB...4606549537QQcategoryZ9806QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
) at the mo, but it'll probably go out of my budget (It's at £625 atm,
but will go for more. It is a lightly used training bike though...) I
may not bother trying seriously to win it. There's a '96 P plate Divvy
600 with 33k on the clock at a dealership in Hove that I may well go
and have a look at. They've knocked the price down to £995 to clear,
so it's just about within budget. Will need a good looking at, and BGN
was kind enough to point out the UKRM buyers' guide, which seems
    comprehensive and a must do.

Speaking of which, BGN is trying to sell me his ER, a temping prospect,
I'm sure you'll all agree. He said £600, but it does need a bit of
    firgging to put right...

On a side note, it was ineresting to see that the difference in premium
    between a Bandit 6 and 12 is £2! from £271 for the 6 to £273 for the
    12. Shame there are no cheap 12s about and the excess jumps £250! One
    day...
