Finally have the 954. :)))) Quick dash up and down the nearby hills to bed in the tyres.

Interesting to note as far as running the engine in goes, they simply say "ride it normally, just
don't over-rev or bog the revs down"

The dealer also suggested using any premium fuel *except* Optimax.

True. Although I tend to avoid Optimax like the plague anyway. Every time I tried it in the 600 it
    ran very rough.

    Woo-ferkin'-hoo!
Best put some bright lights in the garage 'cause you'll be spending a few
hours in there over the next few weeks.

  11. ....and the rationale for not using Optimax was (oh, its cheaper not to use
    it)?

More along the lines that Optimax has all these cleaners and other "lovely" things in them that are fantastic for cleaning car
injectors, but put it into a bike with a carb and you are going to be having a shit of a time with it.

Case in point, whenever i went to canberra on my EL250 my 2nd stop was at the Mobile servo[1], first time i was there i put
optimax in cause i was told "pulp and things make it run a bit nicer", but it was really "pulp and things make it run a bit nicer,
unless it's optimax, and then it'll run like a bucket of shit", which it did. No comments needed about the bike already being a
bucket of shit. Funny enough running ULP from that servo was marginally better, but still it was shit.,

[1] my top speed was knocked down by about 20km/h and power delivery went to hell, i was more concerned with the motor not
stalling or sagging rather than "was i at the speed limit yet?"

The dealer where I bought the ZX-6R from said don't use Optimax in an
injected bike. Something about clogging or ruining, was a while ago
so I don't really remember. I only put Optimax in if the tank is
nearing empty (usually runn Mobil fuel) and have never noticed a
problem. My brother uses nothing but Optimax in his stuff and it all
goes OK. I wonder if it is more to do with chemical compatibility
between the brands od fuels with some reactions creating solid
products which clog up the system (I'm not a chemist so don't really
know, but where I work chemical compatibility between things we deal
with is VERY important). ie if you use nothing but Optimax its OK,
but if you are contantly changing fuels, and then run Optimax, you end
up with the tank full of crud.

One of these days, Shell will announce they are discontinuing Optimax, and
are replacing it with some new wonder-fuel, that will have everyone raving
about it. And then a while later, it will emerge that all they actually did
was re-brand it, and it is nothing more than Optimax by a different
name...and then suddenly all the problems that "vanished" when Optimax was
    supposedly withdrawn will reappear.

The only confirmed problem with Optimax is that there is way too much
anecdotal evidence, and no actual proof , regarding these alleged problems -
nothing except a bunch of dodgy and conflicting theories that don't add up
    to much at all.

Dunno - Carbed Blackbird fouled plugs 3 times in 100,000km.
Each time was after filling up with optimax.
Only used Optimax about half a dozen times in the life of the bike.
Ended up using any other premium other than optimax.

CBR600 gots filled up with optimax or whatever premium fuel is handy.
    Never had a problem.

VTR gets filled up with optimax or whatever premium fuel is handy.
    Never had a problem (yet).

  16. Thats interesting...

A Mobil servo selling Shells "Premium Wonder Fuel"??? They must have run
    out of Synergy 8000, eh?

No, he said it was a _Mobile_ servo. It probably moves from storage tank to
storage tank, and dispenses whatever happens to be in the tank it stopped
    at.

    Logic, mate.

I've _seen_ those driving around, they're those big yellow and red
tanker trucks, right? I've never even _thought_ of flagging one down and
getting a tankful off him! Silly me! Do they charge much more than a
regular service station? With the lousy 220km fuel range on the Spada,
maybe I can organise any future long rides around their schedules... Do
you know what times they're likely to have one on the Broken Hill to
    Mildura road?
Sorry, I shoulda known about these...

Ah shaddap, i was posting at about 1am, i just realised (at midday the next day) that it was that Synergy 8000
shit that stuffed my bike over, not optimax. I believe this is tail-between-the-legs-"yes-i-made-a-boo-boo"-time
