Honda's crappy warranty and workmanship

A buddy of mine bought a 2002 F4i a short while ago. Now it's been
only a few months and 3,000km and the paint on the back of the frame
on the right side is flaking away. This isn't in a spot that his boot
rubs or even where road debris hits it as the swingarm would protect
against that. It's right in front of the rear brake assembly.

He went to his dealer and then directly to Honda but Honda refuses to
warranty it. First off they say they offer no coverage for paint
regardless of where or why on your bike. I guess this includes thier
own poor workmanship. The only likely reason this stuff would flake
off the way it is would be poor preparation prior to coating.

Due to the fact that it is quite obviously a workmanship issue not due
to abuse or normal usage I would've thought Honda would address the
problem out of goodwill regardless of whether it's officially
    warrantied or not.

What about the legendary Honda fit and finish? Apparently it's about
as good as their customer support. Makes me rethink whether I'd buy a
    new Honda or not.

Just thought I'd share that in case anyone cares or has had similar
    experiences.

  2. Jolly good. Now are you going to sue Honda for the nervous distress
    you've suffered?

A trashed gearbox or main bearing? This is a brand new bike, even
    paint flaking shouldn't be happening.

Funny story about the phone though.

??? Reread the post TOG, it's my friend's bike not mine. And no,
obviously he's not going to sue, but I think he got screwed and that's
why I shared this. Are you of the contention that when things like
this happen you should just shut up or should people say something
about it? The fact is he buys a brand new unused bike and it's flawed
and Honda disavows (sp?) any responsibility.

Luckily, to do the the valve check you don't need to remove much
bodywork - just the side covers from the engine (2 alan screws each) and
the main side panels (1 screw each). Takes about 3 minutes.

Just done mine and at several times your mileage, they are still all in
    spec.

Have you put the wind-deflector kit on it? They are Alan screws as
standard, but the deflector kit has longer Phillips head screws as
    replacements.
    You're odd.
Only 104,000 at 12 years old? Mine will be there in the next year. Y2k
    model.
