    Hi all
In any gear, more noticeable in lower ones, if I maintain a steady speed, my
bike seems to gag subtly as if it's gasping for breath. By subtle, I mean
that it's as if I'm very lightly tapping the front brake randomly, or as if
I'm riding over puddles of glue which impede the forward motion of the bike
slightly. This happens when the bike is warm or cold and only at constant
    speeds.

Has anyone else experienced this? My VLX Deluxe did nothing like this, and
no other bike I've borrowed as done this. Even if you haven't experienced
this, does it sound like a familiar symptom of something?

    Thanks

which spirit is it, a 750 or an 1100? The 750 with a chain could do this if
the chain is binding or needed lube. Either bike could do this if it needed
a new air filter, fuel filter or simply a tuneup, but it wouldn't be common.
If it has after-market pipes or the baffles punched out, it might be
miss-matched to the jets. An Ace 1100 with a single pin crank might seem
like this as it is trying to emulate the lope of a Harley, but as far as I
know, all of the 1100 spirits are dual pin and should run fairly smoothly.
Is it possible that you are riding someplace where there are numerous glue
    puddles?

Sounds like typical lean carburetion... thank you EPA. For low rpm sagging
and surging the usual remedy is to richen the mix via the airscrews, or in
extreme cases upsizing the pilot jets. Shimming the slide needles will help
with any mid-range weakness. No need to change out the main jets unless
you've messed with the pipes or air filter.

Yes factory set these lean carbs because of government epa regulations.
    Thats why our
    bikes run bad.
