G'day all..going to do my first oil change on the Spada...manual says
    20w50 spec
Is this OK for Queensland summer conditions or should I go for something
    else?
Best brand? any to avoid? synthetic or standard?
Got myself a HifloFiltro oil filter..hope they are ok...

sorry for all the newbie questions..lol

    Cheers

    Welcome Sean.

Nice bike, the Spada. Can't kill them with a stick. Watch out for
    white vans, though.

20W50 should be fine for QLD.

I prefer genuine filters. There have been experiences of cheap filters
    that don't (filter).

Is HiFloFiltro a reputable brand? I haven't heard of it.

Use good filters, appropriate oil, and change both a little more
    regularly than the book says.

Hi Moike, thanks for the advice....curious, but not sure I want to know
    about the white vans though...lol

Is synthetic the way to go?

I've read the hiflo filters are used by many OM's and from same factory
as K& N (read expensive) brand...
havent heard of em either and was hoping to get some local opinion.

    cheers

    <scary music> I drive one. </scary music>
(but seriously) white vans are frequently being driven by folk who are
underpaid by the minute, navigating unfamiliar roads, trying to read a
map, running late, and with bugger all side or rear vision. Recipe for
    disaster.

I was seriously afraid to change lanes in my van (
    http://tinyurl.com/mtskeyne ) until I had fitted wide-angle convex
blind-spot mirrors to both sides. Even with a head check, I can't see a
normal car passing on my left on a multi-lane road without the mirrors.
I don't have direct info on synthetic for the Spada. Big will wander
    past soon and tell you.

What did Honda recommend when they built it?

I generally go by that, so my (close on) 30 year old bike gets plain
dinosaur juice. Synthetics can *reputedly* be more trouble that they
are worth on *some* older bikes. I'd go by the manufacturer's
recommendation until some alternative authoritative advice comes along.
