So who do people think will get the two 'spare' RC211Vs that may (or may
not) now be floating round the MotoGP paddock...

Or are we already headed back towards a similar situation to the part of the
90s when hardly anyone raced the big class 'cos (a) it cost too much (b)
there weren't enough sponsors and (c) there wasn't much chance of winning
without a certain rider and a certain bike....

Where did you hear that? A mate of mine said it last week, but I've not
read anything on the Internet, so it can't be true.

Yes. "It's like Barry Sheene. But without the personality".

Time will tell on that - he *did* win BSB privateers in '03 out the back of
the crappest transit van I'd seen for a while. And a load of the team
managers rate him very highly. I'll see how he does in his first year on a
competitive bike (At worst he'll be on an '05 M1 and that wasn't too
shabby - and if he does well on Dunlops, even better) before I slag him
    off....

And he seemed like a nice, reasonably down to earth bloke the couple of
times I met him - loads more likeable, friendly and approachable than most
    of the MotoGP paddock.

Which makes me wonder how Biaggi's gonna react when he finds out that WSB
let the plebs into the paddock - E10 says he'll use "Being distracted by all
the people stopping/annoying him in the paddock" as his second excuse for
doing badly (after "My bike is not the same as[fill in name of main rival on
    same bike]'s")

And I read it in MCN so it *must* be true. They are linking him to a ride
    with Honda!

Still rumoured to be signing for Tech-3 on the Yamaha with Dunlops, but
    not confirmed.

Barry Sheene only won when he had the best bikes.

Bait? It's the unarguable fucking truth.

Barry Sheene won **** all when he wasn't on the best equipment and
when the likes of Kenny Roberts came over to Europe started to
struggle. That's not to say he wasn't a brilliant rider but when he
won his World titles he wasn't up against the best in the World.

I'm probably more partisan than most when it comes to supporting
British riders but unfortunately we haven't had a World beater for
some years. James Ellison is probably our best hope in ages and I
think a lot of that is because he hasn't been down the usual route of
BSS, BSB, WSB then second string MGP bikes. He's young enough to get
some serious interest from the big bucks sponsors in Europe without
being tied into UK sponsorship deals and he's proved he's got the
desire to race by riding that hopeless pile of dross he's been saddled
with recently. I really hope he gets the back up and the support he
deserves and we get a chance to see a home rider racing in the top
class on a competitive bike for once.

Hint: look at what happened when the Yanks came to play.

By his big crash do you mean Silverstone or Daytona? Both were big
crashes but he only came back a success from Daytona. After Daytona he
was given decent bikes by Suzuki but after winning the title for the
first time he wasn't exactly running away with it until Hennen crashed
on the island leaving Sheene a pretty clear run at things to win his
second title. The following year Roberts hit Europe and that was the
end of that as far as Sheene was concerned.

Barry Sheene was Britains last top class World Champion (I don't count
Fogarty as he either didn't get the chance or didn't want to race
against Doohan, take your pick as to the reason) and as such is one of
my all time racing heroes to this day but I still don't think he'd
rank in a list of all time great racers.

Get back in my net you bastard....
