    Hello,

I've bought a Honda CG125 - first bike - and I would like to know if it can
be derestricted, if so how, will it make much difference? If not is there
anything I can do to it to give it a bit more power?

    Cheers!!

Eat a vindaloo and brace yourself?

It's your first bike, it'll be underpowered. It's up to you to learn
the skill to make it look good and go fast. You'll not do it
overnight, you'll probably crash[1], it'll probably hurt at times. If
you make it to a 400 or a 600 you'll be ripe for running rings around
    people though.

Stick with it, and enjoy it for what it is.

[1]this doesn't matter on a CG as you only need a size 9 to kick it
    straight again after

Nope, it isn't "restricted" in the first place

if so how, will it make much difference? If not is there
Not really, there are no simple tuning mods and anything complex would
probably cost more than the bike is worth. About the only thing you can do
is change front and/or rear sprockets to get either higher top speed (with
reduced acceleration and more difficulty getting up hills or driving into
the wind) or better acceleration (with reduced top speed). However, your
best bet is to leave it as it is and use it to refine your riding skills.

It has all the power it's ever going to have. Make the Sign of the
Holy Pushrods, and learn to master 12bhp - then move on. As someone
once said, if you want a faster bike, buy a faster bike. Good luck.

Just remember to put some engine oil in every now and then ok? I know they go
like they'll never stop, but still, some oil occasionally.

They're not fast, but they'll still get you and your camping kit to some out
    of the way places.

Enjoy what's left of the good weather, and if you're riding it through the
winter, regular repaintings of everything with diesel will stave off the
worst effects of the salt and shite.

    Carry a spare throttle cable.

Seconded. If you achieve the improbable and invest the CG <MtSotHP> with
greater urge, then you WILL need it.

It's not restricted, it's just built slow. They are slow for a reason,
that reason is toughness, they are a very basic cheap to run, and tough
    bike....

True, they can get into just as much shit on a 4hp moped. :)

Get about 50 of these http://www.turbonator.com/ & stick 'em in your
inlet manifold[1], then watch those gixxer thous disappear in your
    mirrors.

[1] You may have to extend it a bit.

It doesn't need more power. I can guarantee that you can have loads and
loads of fun on it. Use it to learn the basic skills like getting your
kneedown, dusting power rangers and that basics of wheelying and do it on a
bike that cost about 50pee to run and can be kicked back into shape when you
    fall off.

    Easy...

Take it to your local Aprilia dealership and say "I'd like to part-ex
this shonky old thing for one of your finest RS125's please"

    Job done.

You'll get more of your money back on a CG125 when you come to sell it
than an ex learner owned RS125.

    [snip other CG related gubbins]
    ....and I thought, "Eh? How?"

Granted, one could probably beat them if you restricted the challenge to
    an engines-off paddling race...

My tongue was firmly in my cheek. The CG125 is a pile of poo.
