    Hi
    I'm new - be gentle... ?

Anyways, got me a Honda CBX750F (Bol D'or)

Its pretty old (25 years!!) so parts are a pig. One thing I could really use
    is a rear rack/carrier.
Been trawling ebay and the web but nowt apart from a couple of hideously
    expensive examples!

Just wondering if a) any one happen to have one tucked away they no longer
require and would exchange for beer tokens or b) recommend
    breakers/companies etc

The last option is to fabricate one from scratch, which I will do if I have
    to.........

    Anyways, thats all really :)

    Cheers

    Peter

Have you tried ebay.com, sometimes stuff can be cheaper there if you can
get someone to bring it back for you.
    Nope and nope.
Watch out for the grammar/style pedants.
    To you too.

  6. Oh, ye of little mechanical knowledge.
The CBX750 lump was a joy - hydraulic valvegear, no maintenance needed.
The cycle parts weren't much different from anything else around at the
time, admittedly, but the engine was a jewel, good for round-the-clock
    action.

Apart from the alternator chain, which usually starts to slap around
from 40k miles onwards - effectively writing off the bike unless you're
confident to strip and rebuild the lump at home.

Shame about the chains inside the engine that drive the valve gear or
    alternator.

I take it all back ... with such a ringing endorsement it must be a
    cracking bike.

It's got low maintenance technical details! What's not to like?

Nice looking bike but hold on, didn't it have the traditional Honda engine
    woes?

Camchain woes, I'm almost sure. Or the tensioner. Though IIRC if it was
changed as a service item, like airhead valves.....

Definitely alternator chain. I had one - ended up Nigeing it out for
half what I paid for it, as I'd been quoted £600+ to fix it.

  14. Nah, alternator chain, like he says. lasts for 40-50k then rattles like
a b'stard and requires a total engine strip to replace.

  16. Not if the oil was changed religiously at every 2~3K it didn't, as I
know from (in)direct experience of a mate's, which had done 160K by the
time he flogged it, with no rattles.
Unfortunately, many bikes of that era were owned and/or ridden by utter
mechanical fuckwits who wouldn't know how to undo a sump plug and oil
filter if their lives depended on it. In that respect, not much has
    changed.

    Hi all

Cheers for the warm welcomes and Hi Aidie ;-)

Been kicking around usenet for over 15 years [using different name] so
pretty used to some of the "characters" you find in NNTP land LOL
    Spelling and grammer???? naw......

Anyways, not everyones a fan of the CBX I guess but hey ho. Basically it was
cheap enough that I could afford to get back on a bike after all these
years. Gotta say, it feels damn good!! Yeah, I know, its no R1 superbike
    .........

Heres a pic, you know you wanna se it....

    On to bussiness.......
Hadnt thought of using the .com for ebay <doh> will keep an eye on there
too. Even with the extra postage, it may well be a viable option and I have
gone that route in the past.
The Hepco & Becker rack is exactly what I'm looking for - only not as
expensive! That ones about 3 x what I was hoping to pay, though if push
comes to shove and if my crap sells well on ebay then it maybe an option. I
do have the option of a bespoke one but again thats gonna cost a fortune!!

    Ah, I'll get there :)

Cheers for the advice etc. Much appreciated.

You American or what? How many ways would you like?
You should borrow one of Fraser's extra apostrophes from up there^^^.
    Whoops, there goes another.
You're doing it on porpoise, aintcha?
You _are_ doing it on purpose.

    I hope.

Yes, & you only have to look at all the text speak on Facebook & web
forums to see why. Although the apostrophe thing's more of a meme than
    a hang-up.
