The capacity is almost invariably embossed on the engine/gearbox
casting/cover in the area of the oil filler.

Failing that, but 4 litres because it *will* be less than that, chuck
half of that in, then top up slowly to the indicated line on the
    sightglass or dipstick.

    How difficult can it be?

Dipstick is the operative word here.

Indeed, Brother Snot Gobbler. I didn't wish to be so obnoxious so
soon, you see. It is a task fraught with difficulties and pitfalls,
dealing with the semi-sentient - as is changing bike oil, apparently.

I was expecting a post from the OP along the lines of::

" so if I've put in 7 litres of hypoid 90, does that explain why the
exhaust smoke is black and the clutch slip in all gears.
Keep up the good work, brother.

    Amen.

    '92...That's an "N" spec, isn't it?

    L&N models:
3.2l if not changing the filter, 3.4l if also changing the filter, 3.8 if
it's bone dry. It should, as Pip sez, say on the clutch cover, however,
it's in sticker form and in Japanese if it's still on there.

If I'm wrong about the year and it's an "R", then the numbers change to
    3.0l, 3.2l and 3.8l accordingly.
