Honda C90 spares

  1. Hello, little can't-find-a-mate (biological or otherwise)!

    Who's ever suggested a DT50MX is a classic?

Its highly amusing that rather than just admitting you are a sad bunch
of tossers who cant afford to own a proper classic bike, that you would
rather spend time generating spurious nonsense about the person who has
pointed this out to all of you.......................keep it up you are
just making yourselves look even bigger idiots!

    Read this :
The fine FAQ for this newsgroup can be found at:
    http://www.unixconsult.co.uk/bike/ukrmcfaq.html

Then read this : (1st quote from FAQ )

As most posters here are in their late thirties/early forties, almost
anything from the 70s & 80s will probably be considered a classic.
In other words, if 'Classic & Motorcycle Mechanics' will print an article
about it, chances are that we'll accept it as a classic.
Or the less contentious definition - if your insurance company insures it as
a classic, you should be OK.

Champ has devised a system to determine the "classicness" of a bike. TOG
    explains how this works:

Everyone has their own ideas. Some people swear by (or at, or occasionally
both) their old British stuff. Some go by the classic insurance guidelines
that anything over 15 years qualifies. Some point to "acknowledged modern
classics" like the Ducati 916 as not falling into either of the above
categories. Some point to old stuff like BSA C15s which are old enough but
were horrible when they were new and are now old and horrible.

If you want one suggestion, from a certain GSXR1000-racing hairdresser:

"classic status" = "age" x "how good was it when it was new?" x "special
    interest multiplier"

where age must have a minimum value of, say, 10 years, "How good when new"
is rated on the scale of 1 to 10, and the "special interest multiplier"
varies between 1 and 2. Let's work some examples :
    400 four = 25 x 8 x 1 = 200
    Suzuki RE5 = 28 x 3 x 2 = 168
    GPZ900R = 17 x 9 x 1= 153
    GPz750 turbo = 17 x 7 x 1.5 = 119
    BSA Bantam = 45 x 3 x 1 = 135
    Norton Commando = 30 x 4 x 1= 120
    CB500T = 27 x 3 x 1.2 = 97.2
    XS750 = 22 x 3 x 1.4 = 92.4

So, as stuff gets old, it slowly becomes classic no matter how shite it used
to be considered, with an allowance made for 'interesting' stuff.

I reckon a threshold of 100 works. So, for a 10 year old bike to count, it
has to be a brilliant bike. A 20 year old only has to be average. After 50
years, almost any old shit gets in.

    ===================

Now read this (Second quote from FAQ )

    2.14: Shite Old Bikes (tm)

A definition of Shite Old Bikes

A shite old bike is different from a ShiteOldBike(tm).

ShiteOldBike(tm) is a term of endearment and respect.

A SOB(tm) is a bike that is old, and er, shite by virtue of it's age and
lack of mechanical complexity, but one that makes no apologies for what it
is, and is 'best' at something.

    Jim Redmond's RC166 is a ShiteOldBike(tm) (when compared to Foggy's 916), a
ratty old GPZ500 is a sob (compared with a new Bindit 6)

Anything over 20 years old with drum brakes is generally a sob, but it's
    only a SOB(tm) if it's 'interesting' - a CG/CD125 or Benly can be a SOB, but
more 'mid-range' (when launched) bikes like SuperDreams are only sobs.

SOBs(tm) have a 'cult' following, but LCs and RDs don't yet count 'cos
    they're too fast.

Jotas and Z1s are SOBs(tm) 'cos if you just want performance, then a modern
    CBR6 is better.

In fact, a new CBR600 is probably the antithesis of a new SOB(tm) - a
SOB(tm) is the kind of bike that no reasonably sane person would want to buy
    or ride.

High mileage is not required for a SOB(tm), but it can help.

GPZ900s are *not* yet, SOBs(tm) 'cos Z1s are shiter.

Anything with a hand-shift or acetylene lighting is a SOB(tm) if it's still
    roadworthy.

A sob can be a SOB(tm) if it is owned/preferred/ridden by someone who
could/can afford a modern, fast bike *if they wanted, but they don't*.

A sob can become a SOB(tm) by virtue of being ridden by a competent rider
far beyond the limits that riders of more modern machines would expect.

    4-Strokes must have 3 of: push-rods, air-cooling, 2 valves per cylinder, oil
    leaks.

Carburation should be set so that all bikes fail to idle and will stall on a
    closed throttle.

Tyres should be at least 18", on spoked wheels, and should be no wider than
110 section - Avon Deathmasters gain bonus points.

Brakes must be incapable of locking either wheel.

Electrics are optional by may be 6v, or if 12v, should be insufficient to
power the headlight below 5000 rpm. Indicators are optional, but where
fitted, the flash rate must vary between 5 and 120 flashes per minute.

Noise limits are optional, but minimum levels of EMI and hydrocarbon
    emissions will be set.

And the final rule: Bikes must be *so* shite that fast riders (and/or
    racers/IAM members/observers/examiners) of modern sports bikes (R1s, 916s,
Blades) respond with "No chance, mate" when offered a go ;-)

  5. Are you saying you *didn't* make that InterPerv posting, Kenny Boi?
    Somebody forged your email addie?

    Oh dear....

Tell me, Kenny Boi, how do you like them? Old? Young? Very young? With
    disc brakes or drums?

Just *what* entitles a CB500T to a 20% "special interest" premium?

Then again, if an XS750 gets 40% ...

Also, the ages are out of date now, which presumably means these two
    are now "classics".

And it would seem that most of you people are quite unable to find any
motorcycle worthy of being called a "classic".................if you
enjoy riding and owning old shite then thats fine, these bikes are not
    classics though!

If the bikes you lot favour are indeed classics (rather than shite),
then why not just say for reason you feel they deserve that status,
rather than post nonsense about me?
