Have been told that ho ho ho is no lomger acceptable. How about bah bloody
    humbug???

My kids came over this arv to do the Christmas thing with me before heading
off to their dad's place in country NSW. Feels very weird, especially as I
have to go to work tomorrow and Christmas hasn't even happened yet!

Not sure quite how I feel about spending my first ever Christmas all by
myself... part of me is saying "yay! do whatever you bloody like!" while
another part of me is saying "you poor sad git"...Don't know which one will
win out on the day. I have a morning ride planned... I reckon the Cotter
will be deserted while everyone else is doing the family thing....

Merry whatevers to my fellow ausmotians, and thanks for being there! You are
    good eggs :)

However... avoid the big commuter and feeder roads at around 9-10am
    and around dusk.

Because people are going to visit the rellies for the big day.

In the morning there's heaps of cars with overexcited children and
parents gearing up to cope with the horrors of relatives they can't
stand but have to be polite to, but the afternoon/evening is worse.
The kids are tired and fractious and complaining about presents, the
adults are tired and upset and a bit drunk.

This is especially painful in Sydney because whether you choose the
Old Road, or Wiseman's or the Nasho, you have to run the Christmas
    Driver gauntlet for bloody miles.

  12. Merry whatevers right back attya. For similar reasons to yours, December
25th is just another day off for me.

So if you're doing the loop north to south, look out for a blue Z750 in
the Cotter picnic area before you hasten on your way. I was planning to
be there between 9:00 and 9:30.

I don't know why people place so much emphasis on Christmas Day and some
perceived need for everyone to be spending the day with family or
whatever. It's just another day of the year. Noone would blink at the
thought of spending Australia day alone or Queens Birthday. Making such
a big deal out of spending the day alone, really only makes it worse for
    those who are.

I shall be spending the first 8hrs of tomorrow at work.. then most of
the daylight hours I'll be sleeping, then back to work for the last few
hours of the day. I love Christmas... there's no traffic on the roads
when I'm commuting to/from work, it should be the quietest day of the
year workwise and from a glance at the TV guide looks like there might
be something worth watching on telly too. The only Christmas present I
hope for is constant rain all day. I sleep much better when it's
    raining :)

Well I'd be upset to spend Australia day alone. It's my birthday.

Happy Saturnalia to all you lot too.

yeah, rationally I know that. But over 4 decades of social conditioning is
hard to ignore. I don't even LIKE Christmas, FFS, and I enjoy my own
company! I hadn't expected to feel lonely - but it really hit me when I
    waved the kids off yesterday.
Because neither of those carries such emotional weight and social pressure.
Maybe. Tomorrow will tell. For all I know, I'll have a fabulous day. I often
find that the anticipation (or dread) of an event is worse than the actual
event anyway - maybe this Christmas will be like that. Maybe I've already
had the worst of it, and I'll bound out of bed in the morning, eager to get
out on the road (btw, will keep an eye out for you at the Cotter, Andrew!)
Enjoy! Hope you get your quiet commute, peaceful work day and rain-filled
    sleep!

betty, off to dig in the garden
