spoke to in Wymondham reckoned they had to be or people in cages would

When I pull over to let one past he always acknowledges. I think that's
because he's still a Bear in Norfolk, not Sus scrofa.

 

I unforget in about 1962 I was on the way to the rifle range riding a
500cc Jampot Ajay single when I went past a brace of dibble in a
noddy-car hiding behind a hump-backed bridge.

Slowed down and upped a couple of notches. Half a mile of trailing me at
30 mph and they pulled me up.

"Going a little fast as you went over the bridge, weren't you, Sir?"

"Nah. You can't go over bridges like that, fast. I was in second, so it
might have sounded fast."

"Where are you going, Sir?"

"Rainham. The rifle range."

"Hrrrmph. May I see your licence and insurance, Sir?"

I opened my riding jacket and fished for them - beside a ·44 revolver.

I handed the documents over (going to the range, I usually carried
them...) and after examining them, dibble asked: "I suppose you have a
certificate for that?"

I assured him that I did, and he never even asked to see it.
